  • Deep crystal cleaner or color-x ?

What's the difference? Is there a time to use one over the other? Is one better than the other on neglected/ oxidized paint? or is the deep crystal cleaner ( step 1) and deep crystal polish ( step 2 ) better than color-x? just a little confused.

Deep Crystal Paint cleaner is a paint cleaner only, it adds no protection like a wax. It's in a category called "Paint Cleaners". The product is something you would use in Step 2 of Meguair's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle.

ColorX is a cleaner/wax, in the Meguair's line that means it is an all-in-one type product, that is it is part paint cleaner, (like Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner), part polish, (like Deep Crystal Polish), and part wax to leave the finish protected after you're using it.

ColorX is something you would use to encompass Step 2, Step 3, and Step 4 of Meguair's 5 Step Paint Care Cycle.

Generally speaking you get the best results when you break up the paint polishing process into dedicated steps using dedicated products, at the same time, Meguair's cleaner/waxes do a phenomenal job doing all three steps in one step.

With a paint cleaner, you always have to do a second step at a minimum as you need to apply a wax or paint sealant over the paint after using the paint cleaner because it's going to remove any thing on the surface, like previously applied coats of wax but it doesn't leave any protection behind as that's not its job.

Some people like to do as many steps as they can when they're aiming for the best results they can achieve. It's probably accurate to say the the majority of our population just wants to wash their car and wax it and for these people they need and want a cleaner/wax, that is something that will clean, polish and protect their paint in one step.

If you haven't read the 5-Step Paint Care Cycle, then invest a few minutes to read through it as it will explain the different steps and the products used in each step.

        Just to add...

Cleaner/Waxes come in real handy for some places on the car even for people that like to do multiple step procedures on the body paint, for example if you want to clean, polish and wax the door jamb paint, or paint in and around the engine compartment or trunk area. For these places, a quick one-step product will restore a new look and you only have to apply one product. These areas get dirty and stained but don't really get oxidized or swirled, so a one-step solution is a great choice.

Sorry guys restarting this thread again. I just wanted to know which one would be a better choice, Megs Cleaner Wax or Color X? And Pros/Cons, if any?

ColorX has stronger cleaning ingredients. If the paint on your car hasn't been cleaned/polished in a while, then I would choose ColorX instead of Cleaner Wax.

Thanks akimel. That cleared it for me. And can I use ColorX on a new car?
