  • Now What ? Have bought a lot of ScratchX

    Hello all,

I have an Audi S4 that I just became the caretaker of. The new wife had brought the car from Georgia and South Carolina areas and originally had thought that the car had water spots on it.

Now she thinks that it might be tree sap. The car sat outside for most of its first year. (Kills me to think that this car had a list price of 80K and she neglected it, but I am just ranting... )

Anyway, I am trying to resolve the spots that are all over the hood and trunk of the car. (The car has a soft top thank goodness) The spots are pea shaped and everywhere. I have tried the ScratchX all day long today, (Using my orbital with many clean pads) and read all of the links... Is there something to this tree sap. (Is it like an acid or something?)

I have also tried other products that may have been more or less aggressive , all the way to 3M rubbing compound with no real help.

However the areas around the spots look Awesome!~ One detailer I called said take it to the body shop. So any ideas? I want to resolve this on my own.....

    Thanks,

    JR

Have you tried clay or a paint cleaner?

Sorry about my previous post I messed up.Any how I have had good luck with Stoner Tarminator. Sap is very sticky and requires the use of a tar/sap remover not a polish . let us know how you make out

Clay is the best thing you can use to remove sap with.

I would give it a try with the mild blue c-2000 clay.

JR, if it's what you say it is then Clay Bar would be best.

It all depends on how bad it it but it sound bad to me so you could try Meguiar's C-2000 Clay Bar. You should also get a detailer because this clay doesn't come with one. You could get Meguiar's Quik Detailer or #34 Final Inspection (this would cost a little bit more)

Maybe you could get a couple of good picture for us to see

I tried the standard clay bar that I could get at "AutoZone" I tried looking for the Blue or Red bars but had no luck in finding them. Do they need to be ordered?

either ordered, or just at least bought through a meg's dealer. I'd stay away from the red, i've heard it has tendency's to leave clay haze, etc. I've only used the smooth surface kit you get at local auto stores... i'm really curious to try the blue out for myself. So far, everythign i've needed, the smooth surface (white) clay works fine.

OK, did the Smooth Surface Clay do anything?

Also, are we talking about something on the paint or is the paint stained in some way?

Can you post a picture of what your dealing with?
