I asked that question too and was told, "the smell and the color." I was also told that FI was originally designed for the body shop and was therefore "paintable." I was also told that QD has been reformulated to be "paintable." I don't have a bottle of QD that says it's paintable so I can't confirm that.

Generally speaking, Final Inspection is part of the Professional line of products (AKA: Mirror Glaze) and is 'body-shop safe'. What 'body-shop safe' indicates is that the product is silicone-free and thus, is paintable.

You see, silicones are a nuisance in a body-shop and prevent paints from adhering to a surface. The slightest amount of silicone can reek havoc and thus, they have to utilize products that contain no silicone.

Quik Detailer is a Consumer Line product and is readily available at most 'Mart' style stores. This product does contain painted surface-safe silicones. Also, yes, the smell of each product is different.

Both are wonderful products and it typically takes a very discriminating detailer to like one product over the other in my opinion.

My personal favorite is Final Inspection as you can buy it by the gallon and it seems to 'pop' a little better on my particular flavor of paint. On the flip side, I love the QD bottle as it produces a very fine mist that covers very evenly. In fact, I typically utilize Final Inspection in a Quick Detailer bottle!

After using both, I actually prefer the quik detailer over the Final Inspection because you don't have to wipe it immediately off of the car, and thus letting you do more surface at one time (wipe).
I would guess that this is due to the silicone that is in the QD.

In my experience, if you take more than 3 or 4 seconds in between your "spread" wipe and the "final" wipe, then the FI leaves a haze on the surface that you'll have to go over again. But with the QD, it stays wet longer, so that you can have more time to turn your towel, or do whatever.

However, the FI is much faster if you're only doing one little section to touch up. But if you're going to use a spray detailer on your whole car, I would use the Quik Detailer.

          just my $.02.
