  • Roll N' Lock Tonneau Cover Maintenance

    Hi guys,

My previous truck had a Roll N' Lock on the cargo bed and I had a problem where the canister lid began fading after about a year. I'm trying to avoid the same thing happening to the one I've installed on the new truck.

Am I right in assuming that a coating of NXT GEN wax when I wax once a month should give me a safe level of protection from fading? Or is there another product I should try? The texture of the metal for the lid is rough and that's why I have doubts as to whether it will work.

I use the NXT GEN Interior Protectant on the Vinyl after every wash (weekly) and it attracts dust like a magnet. I have been cleaning it and the canister lid with my mist detailer ever morning, is this OK or am I removing the protectant.

So it's a hard plastic and not a fabric? For plastic I would check out All Season Dressing. For fabric I would maybe use something in the Marine line.

The canister lid is actually metal, but it's a rough textured metal, almost as rough and corrugated as a bed linning. The shutter is vinyl covered aluminim.

I actually dont have much of a problem with the vinyl, i simply use the NXT Gen interior protectant. My only question is if the daily cleaning with last touch detailer would remove the weekly application of the protectant.

My real problems are with the canister lid, I want to be sure that its protected, so I don't have the fading problem I had before. Hence, my plan of attack is to wax it monthly with the rest of the truck

Ok, that didn't work. Anybody know how to strip NXT Gen wax off rough textured metal? Tried waxing the canister lid and ended up with white swirls that won't buff off.

Still have a hint of the white swirls after 2 washes and alot of daily QD.

I don't really know what to think. If it left white swirls maybe you didn't remove the wax completely due the the textured surface or didn't let it dry long enough. Or maybe the textured surface is a plastic coating over the metal, you could try a test spot of some plastic dressing and see what that does.
