  • ColorX oxidized paint

Hi, I've recently used ColorX on my 78 Malibu because the paint is pretty faded and looks to be oxidized a fair bit. The stuff did make a noticeable difference on the car but I had a question on applying it. I used a terry cloth to apply it but found the cloth was quickly getting dirty and looked the same color as my paint. I know it's supposed to remove the grime and oxide on the surface but is it normal on a old car to have some of the paint color come off? Also I wasn't sure if I should keep turning the cloth over as soon as it got dirty or not because I was afraid if I didn't the dirt on it might scratch the paint. Thanks for any tips.

Did you clay the car first?

No I didn't since the paint is so old and worn I was afraid I might rub through the paint, plus I'm lazy and was hoping the ColorX would work which it seems to a bit.

Is this the original paint? If so, it is probably a single stage paint. That would explain why you see the paint on the pad.

I actually had a black car that had blue overspray. I didn't have any Aggressive clay, so I pulled out my wool pad. Sure enough, it turned the pad blue!
