  • Wax by Hand or DA

I've done my cleaning, trying to finish the polishing step. I hope to start waxing this weekend. I have waxed before with the finish pad on a DA, and I have waxed by hand. It seems like so much product gets wasted when using the DA. Am I doing something wrong, or is that normal.

Any advantages to doing it one way or another?

My arms hurt when I do it by hand, and it takes forever.

Re: Wax by Hand or DA

When using the DA to apply wax or sealant it is very important to use a small amount of product on the pad and apply light pressure at first so as not to force too much product up into the pad. Remember, as long as the pad feels damp to the touch you can keep putting wax down on the paint - it's not like a cleaner polish that breaks down and, even though the pad is wet, still needs "fresh" product added to the mix. In my experience this forces you to learn how to apply a truly thin layer of wax or sealant.

I don't know if you're familiar with the little 2 oz "pillow pack" samples of products that are often given out at car shows, etc but I've covered a Nissan Frontier Quad Cab pickup with a single sample pack using the DA.
