  • Need a better way to wash

I have gone to the extreme trying to keep the swirls out when washing. I went about three weeks without washing and it got pretty dirty with the rain and contruction going on. I used buckets, grit guards, foam gun, Meguiar's sheepskin mit, gold class soap, and a couple water magnets. After I am done I cannot believe it, swirl city... They are not deep but it is the whole car. A couple coats of NXT2 seems to reduce the visibilty, but they are still there. I have had good success with a touchless automatic car wash and following with UQD. This seems to be the least invasive and whatever soap they use works. Is using this touchless wash going to have the same effect as using dishwashing liquid over time? Any suggestions on what to do?

    Thanks

What kind of car is it? Does that make have a history of sensitive paint?

Of course the other important question is are they new swirls, or previous ones that werent removed?

proper detailing is half the products you use and half the method that is performed...

      do you:

      rinse mitt every panel?
flip mitt mid way through panel?
only use your mitt for paint and nothing else? (wheels, tires, wells, ect)
using too much pressure on the paint while washing?

Swirls will always be there unless you take them out. What have you done to remove them? When?

Remember that touchless will strip anything you do have on your paint.

It is an 06 CTSV and it is known for scratch sensitive paint. It was pretty much swirl free before the wash.

I have a special mitt just for this car's paint and it was washed with my micro fibers before this wash. Two passes at the most over the panel and rinsed well against the grit guard frequently. I will say that this is the dirtiest it has ever been and I was worried about it thats why I was so carefull. i foamed and let it sit for a few minutes then rinsed. I then foamed each panel individually while I washed and used more soap than I normally do.

I am thinking that maybe I just need to use the touchless when it is that dirty and then follow up with a hand wash at home.

          Thanks

Sounds like its probably that wash mitt...from what you just wrote, your doing all the right techniques. So here are the most likely problems...

            1) Wash mitt isn't soft enough. It could be that it doesn't have that good of a nap either and that its not holding the dirt, just moving it around on the surface of the paint. The nap could also mean that it isn't holding enough soap and water meaning that there isn't enough lubrication.

            2) The paint is just so sensitive that it is going to swirl no matter what you do. Our Liberty is like that.

            3) What are you using as your drying device? It could be what ever your using to dry the car. Maybe go out and buy a new drying towel and see if that makes a difference at all.

Thats what I would say is happening, just my opinion though.

Never heard of needing a 'special' wash mitt depending on the type of car you have.

Get a good quality mitt and have at it!

Im going to try a grout sponge.
