  • I need some suggestions

Alright everyone, I broke down and ordered a G100 (kit #1 from ADS) and some supreme shine mf towels. I haven't ordered any product yet because i'm trying a plan of attack. This will be my first experience using a DA but i've been reading everything I can get my hands on. Here are pictures of my truck. I am thinking 83,80,9,NXT, #16. I am open to suggestions (thats why I haven't purchased product or anything yet.)

And one good one to see what the truck actually looks like (other than the scratches)

Remember to always use the least aggressive possible to get the job done, this means doing some experimenting with each of the products you have that remove defects.

We call this doing a test spot.

The idea being to test a product in a small are to see if it's giving you the results you're looking for, if it is then repeat your process over the entire vehicle and you should end up with the results from your test spot over the entire vehicle.

If your first product of choice isn't giving you the results you're looking for then try a different product. The idea being to not go over the entire car until you can successfully make one small area look goo.

In many cases, M80 will work on most paint systems to remove the majority of swirls and scratches and leave the paint ready for wax.

so there is hope? I mean, I see the extreme makeover section of the site and it amazed me about what people can do, but i'm afraid of messing up the paint and making it look worse. So you think M80 with the W8006 pad should work?

On this forum we always say,

"You can't always remove each and every scratch as some are too deep, but you can usually improve the deeper ones to make them less noticeable"

If the truck is a daily driver you don't need to or even want to try to remove each and every scratch as it's likely going to get more scratches in the future and removing scratches means removing paint and you want as much of the precious film build as possible for the service life of the vehicle.

          Do a test spot..

          Wash
          Clay if needed
Use M80 to a small section about a foot squared or so
Wipe off the residue and inspect
You might want to wax also and then inspect as the will be your final result

Best of luck, since it's a big rig, you might want to only try tackling a panel at a day/weekend, for example on one Saturday, just do a fender, or a door, or the hood and slowly but surely work your way around the truck till it's done, that way you won't kill yourself.

Take the advice that Mike gave, M-80 and a test spot, you'll probably be hooked right away!! Another thing to take away from Mikes post is to do one panel a day or so. Doing our F-150 is a pain in the but if you try to do it all in one day.

Unless you are using the Cyclo Tool, the only DA or orbital that I have seen that will remove scratches, you will not make much correction in the finish of the paint. You can make it shine but you will not get much correction.

If you do not have a Cyclo then you should be using a rotary buffer with foam cutting pads and foam polishing pads and the right compound to make the corrections.

I have found that either a micro-fine compound or a light compound at tops is what you need for correcting and then follow with a swirl remover, not filler and the rotary and foam polishing pad.

You can use the DA/orbital for applying the wax or sealant.

Personally, I have found the G-100 through personal experience or G-110 through investigation will fix such scratches or swirls in the paint. Proper technique, product and patience is needed.
