  • Polishing/sanding glass?

So I had to replace a foglight on my car, and on the new one, the glass is shiny, clear and smooth.. on the other one currently on the car, the glass shows all 50K miles of being sandblasted and hit with rocks, pebbles, toilet seat covers..... No longer is the glass clear and shiny; pitted would be a good adjective. Is there anything out there I can use to polish or sand the glass to a like-new condition? A guy I worked with had used a 3 step product years ago, but he couldn't remember what it was. Is there a single product out there, like a fairly abrasive polish or rubbing compound, or a technique to use? Thanks for the input.

    Welcome to MOL!

A company called Eastwood makes a few different kits for polishing glass. I've never used one so I can't speak of how well they work. Also ADS sells two kits, those might even be Eastwood kit's, I'm not sure, I don't see a name on them.

Also since your new and probably didn't know... Post questions in the Detailing 101 forum. I'm sure a mod will move this post but just for future.

      Re: Polishing/sanding glass?

I'm no pro at detailing, but I tried something for the heck of it. I had white staining(from my IG sprinklers)on my house windows, and nothing(I mean "NOTHING") would remove it. I tried windex, vinegar+water, even razor blade scraping. Not a thing worked. So, I pulled out my pc7424 and put some M83 and "PRESTO"!!! The window came out as though it was just purchased and installed. I also use the same process on mine&the wifes auto's. I also(every 2 weeks) wash the windshields with BarKeepers Friend and a bug sponge. Trust me, it will do the job.

On my last order from ads, I received the glass polishing kit. Its made by Lake Country. Its the one for use with the variable speed drill. I wanted this to use on the glass table tops in our house. I followed all the directions and the kit removed 95% of all the scratches and nicks. Very good system. Easy to use and easy to understand directions.
