  • Is it just me?

I now find myself looking at my co-workers’ cars as I walk through the parking structure in the morning thinking to myself “this car needs a good claying, this paint needs to be cleaned, oh look at all those swirl marks!” Ah, I hate it. I’m going to have to start wearing some blinders or something.

Seriously though, from the professional line all the way to the consumer line Meguiars products are great.

My wife’s red ‘98 Honda Civic is in need some attention because the paint has some oxidation in addition to the passenger side having a lot of set in water spots from the lawn sprinklers. Anyway, this weekend, we washed the car. We only had a few hours before she went to work and so I decided to just spot check the Meguiars products I bought for this project (clay kit, deep crystal system paint cleaner and deep crystal system polish). The clay bar works amazing! Seems like such a simple product. Next up was the deep crystal system paint cleaner; I used it on a small spot w/ water spots and with some rubbing by hand the spots not only disappeared but the paint began to shine. Very nice! The deep crystal system polish didn’t seem to do as much (maybe I couldn’t get passed the claying and the cleaning) but I’m sure it did something. Anyway, it was time for her to go but I did get a glimpse of what I need to do and how it will turn out. I’m excited.

I do wish even people who just use a cleaner/wax twice a year would learn about clay... so easy and such a difference.

Here are a couple links to look at first:

A lot of us buy form AutoDetailingSolutions.com (ADS). They usually have some Meguiars products kitted together with the DA, or at least some package deals on the pads and or microfiber bonets. You'll also want some of the Meguiars microfiber polishing towels-- Supreme Shine, I think they're called -- the same that came with the clay kit.

You'll want at least two polishing pads (White, 8006) and two finishing pads (Gray, 9006). The cleaning pads (Orange, 7006) are useful for covering with a bonet for wax removal, but are not generally recommended for product app with a DA.

I bought a spare backing plate so that if mine wears out I'll have one. They are hard to find locally here.

I like #21 for the last step product (LSP).

Great idea to get to the class since you r closeby. Mike came to Indy last summer and I got to attend that one.

      Good luck.

        Just a note,

Most posts should be placed in Detailing 101 if you're not sure where to post them. Only Admins post new threads to Hot Topics and the Information Station, and or move threads deemed worthy to this forum group.

We'll move this thread out of "Hot Topics" and place it in Detailing 101.

        Thank you.

Yes, I bought several of the Supreme Shine towels that I've been using with the QD and when cleaning the windows. I was just a little lost w/ the DA pads and accessories. That's the info I was looking for. Thanks.

Thanks Murr, I just read those links you provided. Very informative. Just curious tho, the colors are off but the #s are still current? 8006 are now yellowish, 9006 are beige/tan?

Sorry, I'm still learning and I'm sure I'll benefit from the Saturday classes.

            Thanks again.

My mistake. I gave you Meg's numbers and Lake Country colors. I've got some of each brand. They both work well, but, if I recall correctly, the Meguiars pads give you a little visual help centering on the backing plate.

                    HF,

                    Not a problem.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I want to wait until I attend the open detail class (3/8/08) before I make any purchases.
