  • 3M Clear Protective Coat

I am considering getting the 3M clear protective coat installed on the hood and mirrors of my Infiniti G35. Have any of you had any experience or comments regarding this product? Also, if you have it on your vehicle, have you had any problems maintaining it?

    Curious,

I hava a camaro with ground effects and had massive number of paint chips on the front bumper after 10 yrs (250,200KM). had the front bumpoer repainted, and then had the 3m protection applied to that. 3 yrs later and am VERY happy. much more resistent to chips, and I wax it just like the rest of the car.

I have 3M on the front of my car for about 2 years and I now wish I would have installed it when the car was new off the lot. Very easy to maintain, just wash and wax like it's not there. Makes a huge difference with chips and road rash on the front end. It's a bit pricey but well worth it.

The product most of us are using is called 3M EXPEL. It is a clear urethane plastic film sheet that is .008 mills thick and is computer cut for the application on your specific car. It usually is installed by a factory trained technician and comes with a 7 year warranty against cracking, yellowing, or peeling.

And how do you remove this film if you have to?

Use a heat gun and remove just like a huge sticker

Thanks for your comments and suggestions. I think I am going to make the investment. I have been quoted prices of $400.00 to $700.00, so I am trying to sort through that.

                    Thanks.
