Well, the idea is that on a foam pad wit ha PC, the pad can either hit and skip over the contaminant without removing it, or actualy pick it up and drag it across than paint, risking swirls.

Now with a wool pad on a rotary, there is still some chance of jumping over, and you still risk the dragging. So I would say to still clay if you want to do a complete job.

It would be best to do a test spot/area with a regular clay first. The more agressive clay would make removing very stubborn contaminants easier, and in less time. It can mar the paint, but that isnt as much of a concern is you are following with a machine. However, I do not believe that using a more agressive clay will use less, I think you would still use about the same amount of clay. So I'd try the regular first.

I would. You do not want any type of bonded contaminant to accidentally get caught underneath the buffing pad and get "ground" into the paint, resulting in horrible "pig tails"! Remember some of the bonded contaminants may be metal particles from the brakes etc...

The aggressive clay works extremely well, but can mark the surface. I use a fair amount of it on vehicles that have sap spray or paint over-spray etc where the normal clay does not work well... But remember, the aggressive clay was designed to be used in the professional environment with the assumption that one will be following the clay with a rotary polisher which means any marring from the aggressive clay is not an issue...

Tim do you know what the C2000 clay in Canada is equivalent to?
Up here we only have the one clay opposed to the aggresive or mild.

Yes...I used to use a lot of it but it was discontinued about 2 years ago...

It would be very similar to the mild version, if not even slightly milder.

Is this for the same car you reference in this thread?

Nope, its different. I asked question case by case. We were new in car detailing. but we already have detailing service. I want to have clear statement about claying and compounding. because in my company,we only clayed if there is an overspray.

let say i want to detail a car that from my inspection, needed to be compounded. do i need to clay the car before?do compounding process already take out the above surface contaminant?

                  thx Mike
