It will fit in some 5 gallon buckets, and not others. I have 2 different kinds (I didn't know there were different kinds until I tried putting the Grit Guards in) and they fit in 1 of the 2.

I bought my buckets at Lowes in the paint section...two five gallon white buckets....I have one marked RINSE so I know which is which...ideally, if you buy two, get two different colors...then you'll never mix up the wash and rinse buckets...

Yup, I also got my buckets at lowes and it fits. Mine are marked on the side to tell you how full it is and such. Also has a cushioned handle and a lid which is nice. Paid $8 for it I think.

I just got a neat wheeled wash bucket from Griot's Garage. It has a grit guard, a soap measuring dish, and a shelf for your mitt. I used two old buckets for years, so this yuppie version is my splurge for the month!

As well I have 2 paint buckets. They fit perfectly.
TXShine, I've always liked how you dressed up your buckets, they look great!

                      Re: Grit Guard buckets

I picked up a bucket at Home Depot that is somewhat clear, and has the measurements on the side, so I know how much water I've put in it. I use that one for washing and a normal white bucket for rinse. The grit guard fits tight in the white one, but loose in the clear one. When I rinse both out, I can hold the white one upside down, and the grit guard stays in place. I have to remove it on the clear one or it will fall out.

If you have problems with Grit Guards floating up or if it bothers you that they are lose in the bucket, I have a suggestion. Just tie some string (something like kite string) on the outer edge (more than one place if necessary) of the Grit Guard and it will fit snug in the bucket. I’ve seen people put bolts through the bottom of the Grit Guard and all kinds of stuff, but this is simple, cheap and clean.

Well, the Gamma Seal lids I ordered online but I don’t remember where from, do a search and you’ll find plenty of choices. If your not familiar with these they have air tight screw on lids not shown in my pictures and are awesome for all kinds of storage. The dollies (that’s two put together / no extra parts needed) came from Northern Tool (Item# 14842). There is one close to my house but you can order online if you wanted. The stickers I had.... I have a good size collection of stickers, mostly automotive type stickers like performance parts and supplies etc...
