Be honest, now have yall ever done a wash/wax or even polish job on a truck/suv and failed to treat the roof with polish/wax?

    Re: Truck/SUV Roofs

I have NEVER left the roof out of a suv/truck detail. If it has PAINT then it gets polished and waxed. Yes the larger suv's/trucks can be a royal pain in the tail due to their overall size. This makes some detailers say "the owner will never see it so why should I bother with it". All I have to say is attention to details and if your customer is paying for a FULL detail then that is what they should get. just my .02.

I've never left the roof (or any other part) out of a paying suv/truck detail either. I know I've forgotten to wax parts of my own vehicles every once in a while though.

im liking the responses... it would seem you would tend to treat the roof with the roof because you do not see it. I myself have NEVER forgot to treat a roof on a truck/suv either... just wondering how often it happends.

I probably wouldn't focus much on the paint correction or anything if it wasn't anything too bad or noticeable, but I'd still give the roof a coat of wax for the protection at the very least.

When I do my truck, the roof is first.

if you think people dont see your truck's roof... ur wrong.... anyone on a bus or 2nd floor or higher of any building can see your roof..... it'd look funny... hood is perfect n then the roof is all ugly.....

anyways.... its quite hard to get on the roof of SUVs..... pick up trucks are not as bad bc you can stand on the bed...... even doing a relatively low compact truck is quite a hassle even with a step ladder having to scoot it back n forth...

what are some platforms that you guys use to reach higher truck roofs?...

I only detail my own vehicles but I own 2 SUV's and 3 4x4 pickup trucks
and I start with the roof and always do it just as good as the rest.
If I was to ever take them to a pro and he did not do the roof I would never go back.

I usually wont worry about polishing swirls out of my Jeeps roof but I do everything else to it that I do to the rest.

My roof is probably taller than most fullsize trucks as I have a lift. I just stand on the back tires and open the front doors.

Without question I treat the roof just like the rest of the paint, even though it can be a real pain sometime.

Being that it’s a horizontal surface it probably needs even more attention. I see trucks and suv’s all the time that it’s very apparent that the roof has been neglected.

There’s all kinds of situations where people see your roof and I want the shine and glare off my roof to be disturbing.

I must admit that I don't spend as much time and effort on the roof of my wifes Honda Pilot as I should. For everything else I go over with something like #80, followed by either a coat of Nxt2.0, Gold Class or maybe #21. On the roof I usually just use one good pass with: ColorX.
