  • New Paint: Polising

Some of the panels of my car was repainted 30 days ago. So, as per advices from this forum, I did not wax the car for the past 30 days. All I did was washing it 2-3 times.

I have to bring my car back to the body shop for a minor issue, not related to the paint job. Should I ask them to polish my car again? I said again because they did polish my car already after they painted the car. By the way, they did a beautiful job in repainting (and polishinh) my car.

If you don't have swirls or holograms I would ask them NOT to touch the paint again. Body shops are known for leaving the paint in anything but perfect finish. If yours looks good now I wouldn't chance it.

Glad to hear they did a good job.

BlueZero makes a good point because most of the time what we hear on the forum is horror stories about swirled out polishing jobs, but if you've found the shop you're going to is doing a great job then probably wouldn't hurt to let them to it again.

Might tell them you hang out on our forum where swirls are talked about a lot and that you noticed they did a good job and then maybe say you're curious as to how they do their polishing work and see if they'll share this or even show you what they do or what they use.

The main thing is you don't want them doing their last step using a wool pad on a rotary buffer, wool pads are great for cutting out sanding marks and removing serious paint defects quickly but they tend to leave swirls in the paint when used as the last machine polishing step.

      Good luck!

My car is silver so even if there are swirl marks, they won't show that much.

I will probably just ask them to do a thorough wash.
