  • Non-staining wax for dealership

The dealership I work at right now has a seperate detailer come in to do the cars, and he waxes them and all that, however the wax they use stains the trim and the boss doesn't like that. Now we are trying to find an economical wax that won't stain the trim and is quick and easy to use for when a customer buys a car so we can throw on a coat of wax.

I was kinda curious about X-press wax on if it stains trim, and also M66. I've used ColorX and love it on how good it is at cleaning the paint and fast it is to use, but need to know if M66 will stain. Thanks, and look forward to suggestions!

EDIT: also while I am at it, also need a dressing for exterior/interior that will not run in the rain/pressure wash but is fairly economical.

Express Wax & All Seasons Dressing work well in a production environment like a dealership. M66 is a great production shop product especially on used units. BTW IMHO no MEG'S products stain any surface they're used on.

You sure NXT doesnt stain trim? It says on the bottle to take care around plastic. Im pretty sure #26 and DC3 also stain trim..

I would also like to know what megs product doesnt stain trim.

I know Turtle Wax Ice doesnt.

If it wasn't waxed to long ago, you could use NXT Spray Wax...I haven't had any problems with it staining and it leaves a nice finish. But you do have to make sure that it was waxed recently.

I have had some issues with NXT 1.0 on some of the textured plastic on my GTI but Klasse All-In-One has not been any issue at all. Now I haven’t tried NXT 2.0 just yet but that will be happening very very soon.

I would recommend this dealership just buy a bunch of products and try them all. Once the trim is stained, a good trim detailer will fix that problem on the test car. I personally have never found any wax or sealant that does not stain Trim and offers good appearance.

I.e. Tutle Wax ICE (I have a bottle) is very thin and definitely will not stain trim. I am not impressed with it as a sealant though.

i have never come across a wax (or polish for that matter) that will not mark trim/seals etc. some stain, and some wipe off, but all of them leave marks. i would mask off the trim and seals that are most likely to get wax on them, and just try to avoid going over the masking. yes itll be time consuming but you can use any wax you like, and compared to learning a new product it probably would be favourable.

Oh there are defiantly good waxes out there that do not stain trim. Eagle One NanoWax, Pinnacle Souveran, Klasse AIO are the first few that come to mind, but none of those are cheap enough to be used in a dealership. I mean some people even use Klasse to help restore their trim! Same with ICE!

I already know that NXT, M26, DC3 all stain trim, but I can't recall if ColorX/M66 does or not, and I have never used X-press wax. If I am not mistaken, M16 didn't stain trim, but that is not longer available and wouldn't really be good for speed.

                  Still awaiting a response

I understand the question. However, to answer it I would have to be guessing. I always thought we taped of the cars to avoid this issue. I must be missing something.

Not when using a product that doesn't stain trim.
As mentioned earlier, not all do.

NXT doesn't leave residue or stain.

I guess paint polishes and waxes are not really meant for trims. As i work by hand i do not need to tape up,if i used a polisher i would.I am also careful when i apply products on trims , i do my best to avoid paint.

                            Re: Non-staining wax for dealership

I don't have a problem with wax that stains because I am not messy like this dealer. I typically do not tape before waxing; however, I did buy blue and green masking tap that is rated very low for stickiness, so it is easy to remove.

I would suggest you recommend this dealer try tape.

What Wax or Sealant does this dealer/detailer currently use? We can probably find something along that price range.

As for Eagle One NanoWax, I have never tried it, so I cannot say it will not stain trim. However, I will say that I doubt it is out of a dealership's price range. Dealerships usually do not have a cash-flow or money problem. Pinnacle Souveran may be a bit outside that price range and probably not worth the extra money anyway as it is a Wipe-On Wipe-Off product.

                            The dealer's options are:
                            1. Try something that does not stain trim
                            2. Tape off the trim
                            3. Be more careful with something that stains to avoid trim
                            4. Clean up the stained trip with a trim detailer when done with the wax.

My personal preference is #3, avoid getting products that stain on the trim.

Something that always worked good for me was to keep an inch or so away from the trim when applying a wax that stains trim. (For years, I didn't know there was anything that didn't stain.)
When you remove the wax you can wipe right up to the trim and this will allow some wax to get next to the trim but not stain it. Same thing when doing the areas around emblems.
Try it, you might be surprised at how well it works.
