I was trying to stay inside the product line but i wanted to try out zaino as i have heard many great things about them. The reason i am using the meguiars in combanation with the zaino is because they do not offer products to "prep" the paint. They offer what i belive to be sealants and they hide the swirls ect. I am not sure if they r sealents but i have my idea. Thats why i was not sure as to put a layer of wax over it. The other steps r just to prep the paint and actually make it "swirl free". I have been using Meguiar products and have been very happy with the results and have fallen in love with the NXT wax. I love the way it beads and even if it rains i dont get water spots as long as i drive the car a little. Thats the reason i want to use that at my top layer.

The reason i am using the Meguiars in combination with the Zaino is because they do not offer products to "prep" the paint.

Zaino makes a swirl remover called Z-PC Fusion Dual Action Paint Cleaner Swirl Remover so they do make a product to enable you to stay inside their system and remove swirl marks.

If you want to mix the two lines, most people on other forums will tell you to wash the car with Dawn Dish Soap after your prep work and before applying the Zaino product otherwise the Zaino will not properly bond to the paint. That or they will tell you wipe the paint down with Isopropyl alcohol.

We've read of others experiences where they didn't do this and after our paint cleaners went right to the Zaino product and had what they thought was good success, so you never know until you try what you can do.

You could always do one half the hood stripping the paint and one half the hood going right to the Zaino and then watch the paint over time to see if there's any fall off of ether side.

Try not to make it too complicated...

Nope...Z-PC Fusion is for machine or hand application.

ohh okay i thought it was only for machine maby ill give that a try if the meguiars does not work. I havent heard of any problems with zaino someone actually told me to put a layer of carnuba on top of the zaino but i wanted another opinion.

As I said before, if you used ScratchX followed by Color X before the Zaino sealants, I highly doubt you will have any problems.

i would just use one brand or the other i have used zaino and i think it has the better,longer durability than meguiars and about the same shine,both my favorite stuff to use.if you have any Z-5 i would use that for sure,or i would reccomend getting that instead of the other stuff.Z-8 IMO is by far the best detail spray although you dont use it everytime.if using Zaino i would:Z-7,good clay,2 coats Z-5,2 coats Z-2,with Z-6 in between all coats,and zaino has their flash cure additive to mix with all polishes to add shine and cure time way faster.you will be very happy with this,or a meguiars process both outstanding products.

also for a cleaner if the paint is in pretty bad cond.,i would try there new all in one cleaner Z-AIO is very good stuff can apply by hand or machine,kinda pricey though-$27,but will last a long time.

Errr...just a suggestion...how about 20:1 dilution of Safe-Degreaser to strip all the wax as recommended at the back of the bottle? Does it sound OK? Cuz I'm planning to do a full detail on my car too and want to get the paintwork really clean and strip everything I've put on it (especially ICE cuz I heard that thing is very difficult to remove - bad move) before I start claying or doing anything. How's that sound?

Well, you can do it if you want, but not really needed. Just the regular wash, then clay and cleaner would be fine.

If the ICE stuff is so good that it survives all that, why would you want to remove it anyway....

Guess I'll have to go a little off topic to answer that.

I think ICE is good in term of protection. I started using it before I got to know Meguiar's. My rear passenger door was dented once and the guy who was doing the paint job had quite a difficult time leveling the clear coat on the unaffected area. I don't know how he clean the paint or whether he cleaned it or not but it just won't stick. Minute 'pits' were everywhere where the clear coat just refuses to bond/stick. I don't know the term or how to describe it. I'll take a picture and post it later. I had to sent my car back to him and I don't know what he did but it's better now. In other word I think the protection it gives is great.

Then the detailing bug bit me. I got to know Meguiar's and started off with the DC system. Did a test spot and the result is amazing. The ICE looked dull as compared to even DC3. I do have to give credits to ICE in terms of quick and ease of application, removal and no residue on trim, but in term of looks it just fail miserably. It's good for those who occasionally like to see their car clean and shiny and don't have the luxury of time for detailing but for somebody who's been bitten by THE BUG, it pales in comparison.

Now back to the topic, what I did was I used Safe-Degreaser at 20:1 dilution as directed on the label to wipe the surface of my car but that was after a 200:1 dilution of Hyperwash for deep cleaning. I did rinse thoroughly afterwards to make sure no residue of the Safe-D was left. The car was squeaky clean and I do mean squeaky. It literally squeaked when I swipe my finger on the paint. Only after that I started to clay and did rest of the normal processes.

I know it's a bit of overkill to do the above knowing that when you start claying and polishing you'll be removing everything on the surface of the clear coat but it just felt that tad of a bit better knowing that you're starting on something like a fresh coat of paint.

I've been reading that there's also something called M6000 wax and grease remover. Don't know about that. Anybody?
