  • Harbor Freight Coating Thickness Gauge?

Anyone have one or used one? Does it look decent? I don't even know what to look for. I'm not in the market right now for a coating gauge but would like to get one down the road. I picked up the same brand of digital caliper (Cen-Tech) last week and have been playing around with it. It seems to be pretty decent for the $9.99 I paid for it.

    CEN-TECH Digital Coating Thickness Gauge

Here's the specs from the product manual...

    Measurement Range - 0-40 mils/0-1000 μm

    Accuracy - ±4 digits on 0 to 7.8 mils
    ±7 digits on 0 to 199 μm
    ±(3% + 4 digits) on 7.9 - 40 mils (200 - 1000 μm)

Temperature Coefficient - ±0.1% of reading change in accuracy per degree change in ambient operating temperature above 82.4° F or below 64.4° F

    Response Time - 1 second

    Battery Requirement - 9V (Included)

Calibration Plate - 2” diameter steel disc .0445” Thick

Gauge Controls - Calibration (“CAL”), Up-arrow, Down-arrow, Back Light, and mils/um

Weight (with battery) - 4.7 oz.

PS... I love being able to post links now. Thanks Meguiar's!

    Shouldn't that be $69.99?

If you can get them for 9.99 let us all in on the deal

Ya, the coating thickness gauge is $69.99. It was a bit confusing the way I worded it. What I wanted to say was that I paid $9.99 for the same brand of digital caliper and that seems to work good. I zipped it back and forth and it comes back to zero. I've measured the same postage stamp thickness a few times on different days and it always comes out the same. I still would like to take it with next time I visit my parents and compare it to my dads caliper and a micrometer.
