  • Need to repaint hood/bumper

I know this really isnt about detailing, but someone hit my car in the parking lot at school and managed to scrape the **** out of my hood and bumper. Some of the scratches are down to the metal. So today I went and painted all the scratches with some touch up paint so that it wont rust and the mechanic where I work offered to help me paint the hood and bumper this summer. I was wondering if anyone would be able to reccomend a website that sells paint for Hondas or for cars in general. It would be a huge help, thanks a lot!

Someone posted a great site on here a few weeks back that sells touch up paint and paint to match oem. I'll see if I can find it.

I would recommend going to your local honda dealer and either getting it from them or asking them what your car's color is and going to auto zone/pep boys.. I heard the easiest way is with a touch up pen, sandpaper and clear coat.. good luck

Look at the top of the page, there is a 1,2,3,4 to getting the right color oem paint for your car. (courtesy of Jimmy The Detailer)

Oh good... now you have an excuse to repaint your whole hood since it already had clear coat failure before.... I dont get how your relatively new car can have clear coat failure though.... quite common on hondas and acuras it seems....

I know several people that have had paint issues on recent Honda's within the first two years.

would that qualify for a repaint under warranty?

As terrible as it may seem, thats kinda what I thought after the initial aftershock of realizing that someone did this to my car... It would be nice to get enough paint and just do the entire car, but I don't want to drag the mechanic at work into a longer process than he offered, you know?

I eventually want to get the entire car painted the same color it is now. I really like the color, but the clear coat is starting to crack in other places, like on the roof and trunk. I'm sure that I could do it with the help from the guy at work, hes painted three of his sons trucks and 2 work vans so he has an idea of what he is doing but I worry about how it will come out... Mostly because I want my car to look perfect haha. I don't know, Ill have to see what kind of money I have this summer and stuff.

Thanks for that paint site, Lt1Corvette, it's cheaper than the other site I was looking at. Do you know if they sell the hardener and stuff that you need for the paint too? Thanks a lot guys!

clear coat failure is typically only on horizontal surfaces such as hood/roof+pillars/boot/top of bumper/edges of windows/top of fenders/etc so you would not have to repaint the bottom half of the doors and fenders if you want to save a few bucks..... but I guess if you want the paint to match perfectly and want all of the poorly applied honda paint gone..... then just do the whole car....

after the spray you can try and find a reputable detailer such as superior shine.... who knows how to wetsand to get rid of the orange peels.... since it is such a large area....I think it would be wise to leave such a job to an experianced detailer....
