    You Guys Are Ruining My Life!

    OK, so not really, but it made a better title....

    So, for 43 1/2 years on the planet I've been content to ramble along with my average American wash & wax car care policy. Then, I get a new car with blue paint & I decide to try to take a little better care of it than I ususally do. I found the Meguiar's site pretty quickly & I've been reading all kinds of threads about this & that and ordered a bunch of supplies.

    Here's the problem:

    Suddenly, now when I'm driving along or even when I'm walking through a parking lot, I'm constantly looking at the condition of everyone's paint. And worse yet, I'm suddenly shocked at how bad all these cars look!

    So, I have to ask:

    How do you hardcore detailers handle the fact that you're surrounded by swirls & scratches & abused paint all day?

    Welcome to the forums!

    A lot of times I just walk through parking lots with my eyes closed. I even notice swirls with my headlights when I am following people. At least you found MOL, your in the right place now.

        Sounds like you've got the detailing bug - there's little hope for you now!

        Seriously, I've been doing exactly the same thing for many years. I'm constantly looking at the condition of everyone's paint and 9 times out of 10 I'm less than impressed. My wife has gotten used to me tuning out of the conversation, looking at a car and just shaking my head!

          well you are exhibiting early symptoms that will advance quick and you'll love it. As for how we do it when seeing swirls, well i'll say a small prayer so that the detailing angels can nudge all detail-challenged to see the Meguiar's light and get swirlfree

            Pssh, 99/100 at the very least for me!

            Seeing everyone elses car just makes me more appreciative for mine, and other's seem to appreciate it as well

              In a week's time, I've seen one truck that was scratch-free. I almost crashed on the freeway trying to inspect it. We almost went out to the Barrett-Jackson auction this weekend, but I didn't have time. I'll bet there are some scratch-free cars out there....

                It's also infectious. My wife now notices swirled paint....and she's never washed a car in her life. Working on my granddaughter now as we bought her a car for Xmas. Gave her the proper washing tools and a couple of lessons and now she's driving HER family nuts........gotta love it.

                    Guilty...

                    I really want to detail my buddies car, which was his "nice" car in high school. He is looking at getting a new car, but can't decide.

                    He insisted at the gas station the other day that he had no swirls because he bought a new hood a year or two back!

                    Driving behind him I'm able to see horrible swirls through his layer of dust via my weak mustang headlights at night.

                          Good luck going to an auto acution... You likely would see what a million dollar car looks like with swirls on it.

                            Man oh man. Everywhere I see cars I see swirls, holograms & scratches. I cringe at the site of them. Many of these cars are nice too. I can't help it and when I found out many of us do the same I felt a little relief. I thought I was going crazy. Now I just see we're all crazy. Welcome to MOL!!!
