Mike is absolutely right, for $25, go try them yourself. I just spend a good chunk of change doing that exact same thing with 9 waxes, and simply put, though NXT V2 does have its downfalls, it is without a doubt a fantastic wax that you really won't be disapointed with!

Don't matter if it is wax or cars CR is not where I would go for guidance
When they test cars it just plain *****.
I would never place any value to anything in CR

Re: NXT 2.0 Vs. Black Magic?

In the past, I used both NXT and Black Magic, finding that Black Magic gave a much deeper shine on my black paint surface. However, Black Magic is really tough to remove when buffing. I've read that NXT 2.0 is easy to remove, so that's why I'm thinking about trying it, but don't want to give up what I've witnessed as the terrific shine and glass finish that I've received with Black Magic. I shall give 2.0 a try!

I know there are two different black magic waxes. one is "wet shine liquid wax" and the other is "High definition carnauba wax". I don't know if the WSLW has carnauba, but the HDCW should contain at least some carnauba.

I am a extremely loyal Meguiars fan, but I think that it is important to give a honest evaluation. having said that, I own both of these black magic waxes, and they perform as well as I had hoped. like I said, NXT is better, but as a consumer, I have to recognize that Black Magic makes a serious wax.

(to my meguiars friends, do not despair, I am still with Y'all)

Re: NXT 2.0 Vs. Black Magic?

Hey, my older sister used to do magic tricks. It is in a small round black case. Inside are 3 blackish discs. One disc is all black. Another has a sun on either side. The last disc has a sun on one side but not on the other. I asked her what trick it was and how to perform it, but she's forgotten. Can anyone tell me what magic trick this is and how it's performed? If so, please let me know. Thank you.

Is it just me or has CR become a joke the last few years. Almost every time I hear people talk about CR, it's the same thing. I never payed any attention to CR reviews. I just search the web for hours or even days researching products by real people that actually use the products. To me, it seems like most of the products they recommend are products that you can find any where and are the cheapest. What I mean is a cheap product found on just about any shelf will most often be "the best". If you have to go to a "specialty store" and pay a premium in price, it usually doesn't test as well. That's ridicules. There supposed to be bias but I don't believe that for a second.

There is a lot of CR bashing going on especially from people who do not like their opinions since we all know the person is right and CR is is wrong. The reviews are simpling rankings against a set of criteria. You need to decide what criteria is important to you and that does make a difference. I find CR a place to get some useful information on a variety of products. To understand CR's rankings, you just need to know how they judge.

For example for cars, their scoring includes ranking for braking and emergency handling. For the typical driver these attributes are not that important and rarely factor in a purchasing decision. I do not consider reliability nearly as important as CR.

Net, use the information to supplement what you are looking to know. People should not blindly follow anything CR says or your neighbor says.

I am by no means a professional but i have used both products and here are my thoughts. I have a 2006 Galaxy Gray Civic.

                      Black Magic:
A pain to apply and buff off by hand but once you get it all done, the shine and depth are amazing. In the wintertime, snow and rain (massachusetts weather), the beading lasts about 3 weeks. This is why i use this as my winter time wax (just trying to use it up because this was my first wax purchase ever besides the dupont wax i got for free). Doesnt stain plastic trim if you accidentally get a little bit on it. Only costs ~$5 bucks

                      NXT 2.0:
SO MUCH EASIER TO APPLY AND BUFF OFF BY HAND! I would say the shine and depth is about the same... awesome and amazing. Paint feels smoother after using 2.0 than using black magic. The summertime, the beading lasts 2-3 weeks.

If you want to know how it compares to NXT 2.0, I did a review. It's on the old CS forum. For whatever reason the pictures don't show up anymore. Sorry.

I have used Black Magic also, great stuff, does not remove quite as easy as NXT2.0, but its not that hard to remove. It does give a real wet look, I use them both.

A lot of Consumer Reports criticism comes from people that do not read the articles. IMO they are as impartial as any magazine can be. Their criteria for a wax is VERY different than that of most people on this forum, thus the results were different. There are NO ABSOLUTES IN LIFE. Thinking that a magazine is going to point you in the direction of something that makes you 100% happy is laughable.

Read the article, think about what you read, use the information to your advantage.

IMO I used black magic liquid wax(it said it makes your car look wet). So I tried it out, I clayed the surface, and then applied the wax. I let it sit for an hour and did the swipe test and it smeared. I let it sit for a little while longer and it still smeared. I was very disappointed. So I took the wax off anyways and it was a pain. I only use Black Magics tire dressing because they are easier to find and cheaper.

I refuse to use CR for anything but to get a fire started (in the literal sense).

CR should write a book and how to publish biased and uninformed reviews...oh wait, they already do

I use Black Magic tire dressings on my textured plastic trim, applied using a foam brush. It works well, I pour a little into a cup and apply by hand. Not saying it's better than Meg's, but it works for what I use it for. If I recall correctly, it was either free or really cheap at AutoZone a year or so back.
