  • NXT is the bomb!!

I posted a thread a few weeks ago about a haze issue with the clear coat on my '06 Honda Ridgeline (Nighthawk Black Pearl). A local detail shop thought a coat of decent wax would do the trick since it had been recently buffed out. Anyway, I gave her a good hand washing the other day and applied a coat of NXT, and what a difference that made!!

Not only did the NXT give it a deeper, wet-like finish/look, but just one application has gotten rid of 80-90% of my haze problem. Now I'm wondering if a second coat of NXT might get rid of the rest of it.

I hope to be posting a couple of pictures soon.

NXT has some small cleaning ability which is why you noticed. What I would do is wash your car again, then get some Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner and give your ride a good clean, and I'll bet the haze vanishes, if I understand the haze you have, then after that apply NXT 2.0 and then notice how much more it pops. Basically, do the Meguiar's 5 step paint care cycle and I think you'll be set.

I could not agree with Jimmy The Detailer more as your prep work is key to any great shine, and don't forget to CLAY after you wash & before you clean your paint.

MY BAD. I left a word out because it should have said "I could not agree MORE with Jimmy The Detailer more". Sorry Jimmy

Many many months ago I was lead to believe that NXT had a mild cleaning agent in it which would address some very minor swirl in the finish, it appears that I was misinformed. Today after talking with Meguiar's Customer Service I now know that NXT has a filler in it which masks the swirl kinda like Clearasil for your car. Man what a concept!

I have heard this before about how NXT is a cleaner wax. I think this is a misconception. Not sure though. Maybe Mike or Tim could chime in here.

LOL, no worries, I know what you meant :-) Now, NXT is NOT a cleaner wax, nor a paint cleaner, but it does clean in a very small mild mild way, but NOT like your typical cleaner wax. For example, I've noticed once how a bird drop on my paint that would start to stain, so I sprayed some detailer spray and it wouldn't quite get it so by chance I grabbed NXT and a foam pad and voila as I worked it in stain was out. I could have done the same thing with ScratchX or DC, but that time I didnt. Again, it is in no way a cleaner wax nor a paint cleaner, but that said it does has some mild cleaning characteristics when applying and rubbing and by the very nature of its chemical makeup.

Thanks for the info Jimmy. When you say apply NXT 2.0 after the paint cleaner, is that the version (2.0) of NXT wax, or does that mean apply two coats? Thanks again. In a few minutes I will post a couple of pictures. After trying what you said when time and weather permit, I will post more pictures.

LOL, even on my phone your ride looks sweet! And its NXT Tech Wax 2.0. NXT 2.0 is how its referred to here, and I'll apply a one good coat with my PC. The only reason in applying two coats is to ensure complete coverage. But theres a plateau to be reached with layering, but anymore than two coats spaced 12-24 hrs apart would be redundant and product wasting. After this, I will UQD my entire car every couple of days to maintain and extend my NXT 2.0 hydrophobic finish. Also, with advent of the new hydrophobic NXT wax and UQD spray, layering any non-hydrophobic product over it would for the most part diminish its effectiveness. I certainly wouldn't do it that way. But the best course of action is the 5 step -
                    1. Wash
                    2. Clay and or
                    3. Paint clean (ie. Deep Crystal, #81, etc) if needed
                    4. Polish with #5 or #7 glaze if dark color paint (yes in your case)
                    5. Apply 1-2 coats of NXT Tech Wax 2.0, wait 12 hours or so in between coat curing
Then UQD entire car then stand back, admire, and take pictures!

Jimmy, thanks again for the awesome information. I do have a couple more questions if you don't mind. I know I can pick up Meguiar's paint cleaner at places like Advance Auto, Autozone, etc. but where can I get the #5 or #7 glaze? You mention applying a coat of NXT with your PC. Is that an abbreviation for a random orbital buffer, and if so what model would you recommend for a non-professional like myself and where do you get them? Also, what do the letters UQD stand for? Pardon my ignorance, but I'm new to this forum and I don't have all of the acronyms down pat yet. Lastly, since it hasn't been that long since my ride was buffed out (long story), does it really need to be done again? When the local detail shop looked at my truck recently and advised just putting a coat of wax on it, I asked them about claying the truck, and they said it didn't need it. My thinking was to just clean the vehicle with paint cleaner and then apply a coat of wax. Thanks again.

My pleasure, glad to help. Now, sometimes they do carry them, but ive found them in places like Napa Auto Parts and if you have AAA you even get a 7% discount! Other than that you can order them from meguiars or maybe a local paint and auto body equip. dealer may carry them.

No worries, we all start the same :-) PC or DA or G100 or G110 is the abbreviated terms for the Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher than I use to apply the wax. This and anything else can be found at ADS (autodetailingsolutions.com) where you will also find Mike Phillips' Dvd "How To Use The Pc To Get Showcar Results" This will undoubtedly get you up to speed fast! And UQD stands for meguiar's best - Ultimate Quick Detailer.

Not unless you feel theyve done the job to your satisfaction. The Dvd will teach you alot and you'll be then able to further assess your finish, and furthermore restore it to the best high gloss youve ever had
