  • Sold a doubter on NXT Tech Wax yesterday

so I recently had a shop change the blower motor for my A/C unit because I was lazy. They had to redo it do to a faulty part and while waiting the owner was detailing a 90 C4 that was in horrible shape. YOu shuold of seen the fiberglass INHALING the product. Well we started talking about product and he's using this thing "forgot the name" . It's one polish and you use 3 different pads (cutting, then polishing, then finishing) All w/ the same product. I found it odd but it was doing a decent job for a car in such horrible condition. Then we started talking about the products I used and all he did was bash meguiars saying they were junk, etc.

Well I challenged him to something. He finished half the car in the stuff he was using and I did the other half w/ a bottle of NXT I had in the trunk. Needless to say our results weren't even comparable, the NXT looked 100x's better then the half he had done. He ended up going over the whole car w/ it then all the workers came out and admired it. They were all on the way to the store to buy some.

I really wish I had my camera, as you'd be amazed what this wax alone did to this already prepared car.

    Hey Hot RodGuy,

Great job!! Many people for whatever reason may dismiss an excellent product without even trying it! This makes absolutely no sense to me!!! Everyone that I have shown the results of NXT to have been impressed to say the least!

    Take care,

          Hi HotRodGuy,

Very interesting. When are you going to bring your Suburban down to Meguiar's? I'd like to help you polish it out if you're game?

The product he was using sounds like System 1. It is a one-step product that you use different pads with to modify how the product works. Truth be told, no one is going to get as good of results using a one-step, as you are by using dedicated products and procedures. People think a product looks good because they usually don't do a side-by-side comparison. This is one of the reason I wrote a small how-to article on how to do side-by-side demonstration when thinking about applying a topper over NXT or any wax for that matter here,

How to do a side by side comparison

Right now there is a thread just started on Autopia involving the side-by-side picture I took showing the difference between 12 layers of Zaino compared to one application of NXT Tech Wax.

          Here it is,

The power of NXT over 12 layers of Zaino on black C5

Chances are very good that the people that begin posting to this thread will try to position it in the negative. But the truth is, that was an real side-by-side demonstration, performed in front of 26 or more people.

The Zaino crowd is always saying that more and more coats of Zaino make your car's paint look better and better. Yet, in the sun, this guy's finish looked... well let's just say that after 12 coats of Zaino, it didn't look very good.

I let other people apply the Tech Wax, I have no idea of their skill level, they basically just gave the hood a quick application by hand using Meguiar's foam applicator pads. Then wiped it off after it dried and then inspected it.

I didn't get near the car until all this was over and people had their fill of inspecting the results.

I wonder if they guys at that shop would like to come to a Meguiar's Detailing Clinic and see some other product in action?

If you're interested HotRodGuy, I'm planning on a not-so-extreme makeover on a 1970 Corvette on Thursday, August 5th, as well as a makeover on some original leather seats out of a 1973 Maserati Bora

I just read these posts and asked a question about Zaino vs. NXT.

I've never used NXT nor Zaino and know only whati read online about them but if what i read is accurate and if I understood right , it looks like 12 coats of Zaino were applied to paint with tons of flaws next to NXT which has filling capabilties, correct?

              Bill,

NXT was applied to a black Corvette with 12 plus layers of Zaino to show that one coat of NXT Tech Wax will look better than multiple layers of Zaino with or without defects.

The point for most people, (not all), is they want their car's finish to look it's best. The person HotRodGuy was showing our product to wants his work to look it's best. It makes his customers happy and showcases his craftsmanship.

I wonder now if any Meguiars LSP, sealant or wax, will look better than Zaino over a swirled finish.

                  System 1, that's it Mike.

And I should have the suburban up and running this weekend, I would really love to still bring it down. Got a BUNCH of big shows comming up that I need to have her nice and shiney for (Chevy Madness, Brothers Truck show, Cruise for Cure at the OC fairgrounds)

If I get her up this weekend I'll shoot you a PM Mike and we'll figure out something the 5th may work out perfectly as I can now finally change my work schedule since I take my Biology final tomorrow and will be done w/ summer school

Wow, thanks for the link to Autopia. Now I have a much greater appreciation for the members here at Meguiar's Online.
