My wife has a 2005 BMW that has some fine scratches (black paint). I did a test run on a few scratches with SCRATCH X and did not see any noticable result. So, am I to conclude that it doesn't work well on clear coat paint? However, i did use scratch x to a dull plastic piece on the car and it worked great@

Most people don't work the product the right way and that's why they don't get the results they're looking for. Most people don't realize that the way you remove a scratch is to REMOVE the paint surrounding the scratch.
Does that make sense?
Now how hard or how difficult it is for 'you' to remove paint from your car comes down to,
The hardness or softness of the paint
Your technique
Your skill level and experience

Not very happy with ScratchX
ScratchX Works! - I Stand Corrected
Can't even begin to count how many times we've heard ScratchX doesn't work and then in front of 30 people at our Saturday classes we'll apply the product, use good technique and remove the scratches.
ScratchX works if you work ScratchX
Anytime ScratchX doesn't work and good technique is used that's just a sign that a machine applied product from our Professional Line must be used or you'll need to learn to live with the scratches.

Re: Scratch X on clear coat question
I took the directions/suggestions that many of you have posted and ran with it. I worked the scratch X in every direction applying a considerable amount of force in one specific area. NO paint showed up on my applicator. However, I did notice that the area was smooth and clean of very fine scratches. I was expecting scratch x to remove moderate scratches, but have not had success at doing so. So, I have drawn the conclusion that Scratch X is great for water spots, swirl marks and ext. fine sratches.
I think I had higher expectations for the product.

Re: Scratch X on clear coat question
If its Clear Coat then you should not have paint showing up on your pad. It is clear you know.
If your finger will catch the scratch then Scratch-X will not bring it out. Nothing will besides a re-paint actually.Current Jeep: 2004 Jeep Liberty with stuff

We have a new product out called M105 Ultra Cutting Creme and to date we're having good luck with this new technology as a hand applied paint cleaner that works better and faster than ScratchX.
It's still a new product and we need to do some more testing but so far it's looking like a good product for what you want to do.
