  • Thinking about Future projects.

I am thinking of having /doing a wet sanding on my truck. (distance future) would it be in my best interest having the truck clear coated again?
Will orange peel reappear starting the vicious cycle over again?

BE CAREFULL if its a factory paint job. THey don't put that much clear on from the Manu. and it would be easy to sand through the clear if not carefull. Even if you don't sand through you can still make it to thin and will end up fading or cracking sooner than it should.
No, the orange peel won't come back if you sand it all out but again 'd be afraid with a factory paint. Their paint is only about 6 mils thick. Mike might have better numbers than that, I'm just going off the top of my head.

Now IMO, I've been to a megs class that had some wet sanding and we were using a paint depth gauge. It was a repainted hood with orange peel, little dirt, and some pock marks. We wet sanded the defects out buffed with Diamond cut 2.0 with wool pad, then followed with DACP and 6 1/2 foam pad. Then just to demo we used a PC with SFP and SG. All and all we removed less than .5 mils of the paint, I think it was actually close to .3 mils. So what I'm saying is that not that much paint is getting removed and some Manu. are saying you can safely remove .5 mils and not ruin the paint. Just think about the future and what other scratches you might encounter that needs wet sanding or some hard buffing. The paint might not be there.

Hope this info helps and I'm sure others can chime in to
    sorry about the long post.
