    04 F-150 wheels

    Can anyone help me with a wheel cleaner recommendation?

    I have a '04 F-150 lariat with the factory 18'' aluminum wheels and am not sure what to get to clean them. Does anyone know if they are coated or non-coated aluminum (I couldn't find the answer online)? It looks like I use different products for each. Also, the center caps are plastic, so do I need to avoid getting cleaner on them?

    I believe they are the 18" bright aluminum wheels, which are machined and coated.

    To find out if they are coated or not, get a polish like NXT (which is safe for coated and uncoated wheels).

    When you start polishing, if the polish stays white, they are coated. To clean, you can use these or car wash soap:
    Hot Rims® Multi-Piece Wheel Wash

    Hot Rims® All Wheel Cleaner



    If the polish starts turning black, they are uncoated. These need special care. To clean, stick with Hot Rims Multi-Piece Wheel Wash or car wash soap only. Any acid based cleaners will dull the finish. Hot Rims Mag & Aluminum Polish works the best on uncoated aluminum.
