Pictures of my swirls.. any ideas?

Well, from a distance i think my paint looks great for a 2003 truck that i bought used in '06.

But after doing #9, some scratchX, and 2 coats of cleaner wax... My paint still has awful scratches on the hood mostly and on the bed cover.
I posted a while back but never got around to taking any pictures of my problem..

So heres what m working with guys; any help is greatly appreciated.

Sure, but you won't really achieve the results I believe you're aiming to get by hand. I would get a PC and #80, then do a test spot and check your results. If unsatisfied then you would need #83 then #80 to finish it off, and unless you have some notoriously hard paint this should put a smile on your face. Then you can use #7 glaze to polish your work and top everything off with NXT 2.0.

Best money you will ever spend is a G100, Megs 8006 and 9006 pads with #83 and #80 along with some Meguiars SS microfiber towels. Ford paint is is easy to correct with the proper technique and tools.

If your only doing it by hand. I would give the Deep Crystal series a shot. I did my Neon by hand using the DC system and it worked great. I did not achieve swirl free paint, but it took away most.

Remember to use some passion behind the pads. I did small sections at a time. That of course after a good claying on the paint, then DC#1, DC#2 then 2 coats of #26 or your favorite wax. Make sure it's two coats and make sure it's dry and thin layers.

Appreciate the help. I might be experimenting with the DC and other products.. It'll be a while before i can get my hand on a PC.

Next time i detail im gonna give the scratchX and #9 one more go around since i don't want to waste them... Hopefully i'll remove a few more swirls, and try to get the paint a little better with each wash. Untill the day i can get a PC and totally correct my paint!

The DC system works great for using by hand. A bottle of DC#1 goes a long ways. I did two vehicles and still have plenty left. #9 although says by hand, most concur it works better with a PC. DC is made for use by hand, thus I think works better when using by hand (works for PC too!). I tried #9 by hand but didn't have the results I wanted compared to DC. I am using ColorX as a maintain wax to keep the swirls at a minimum then top with #26. I have a PC but having horrible problems with it. More than likely operator error. I'm shipping it off to be tested at the Meguiars Garage to make sure it's me not the machine.

The new G110 is coming out this coming month, save your pennies and nickels.


Get a pile of those yellow applicator pads. I used 2-3 for each car with the DC#1 and one for DC#2 and one for the wax. And if you drop one, use a new one. LOL. I drop one every time.

Remember, passion and little areas, like 12"X12", if you try too much, you'll be sorry, I speak on first hand experience. I tried to do too much and wore myself out and did not do well. Take your time, work the product in, wipe off before drying (DC, polishes etc, waxes need to dry and the only product that needs to dry with Meg's).

Have fun. The sun is shining, may go out and wash the Neon and Yukon....maybe.

If you could get a bottle of 80 give it a shot by hand. It has more bite than 9 and scratch-x. You could also try different application material. If you are using a foam applicator then try a piece of terry towel. The nap of the terry will provide somemore bite and could be the ticket for working by hand. Years ago I tested 80 out by hand at work when a friend had a dealer try and remove a bird bomb etching. I used 80 with a foam applicator and got the diso(dealer installed swirl option) out of his door in 10 minutes of rubbing.

The best thing you could do for that truck would be take that front bumper plate off. You should immediately follow that up with a repaint to Carolina Blue.

OK, everyone calm down - just a little intraconference jostling going on here.

Agreed on the PC and I think you would be much happier with the results. ScratchX'ing a truck would take a god awful amount of time. I tried on my black Silverado and thought my arms would fall off after just a couple spots. An added bonus to getting the PC - you could dp your brother's truck (because it is going to get scratched) and charge him enough to pay for it.

Not a bad idea.. Haha. Well i guess i got some thinking to do...Like i said before i'm just going to continue to use what i got by hand.. Untill my arm falls off or i run out of materials.. And then it'll be time to make a decision about a DA.

I think if you can you should invest on a G100 or wait till the new G110, I'm sure you'll achieve the results you are looking for and with less effort, it's more efficient than doing the job by hand

Nice truck! Just a note here, though. 2 coats of Cleaner wax is not needed. Often two coats of wax is recommended to ensure even coverage, but with cleaner wax, two coats of wax is not possible. The cleaners in the wax will just remove the previous layer of wax. If you want more protection, put a regular wax such as DC #3, NXT Tech Wax, or Gold Class on top.

Thanks for that Lydia, I didn't know.

Is it needed to put a layer of Cleaner wax down followed by a layer of NXT 2.0? And of course follow up with another coat of NXT 12 hours later? Will the cleaner wax still help going on previous to the NXT?
I'm getting the NXT friday for my birthday, in the wal-mart kit and just want to make sure i do it all correctly.
