  • Has anyone ever tried gluing the velcro to the foam pad?

I am known for my knack with glues and goops. However, I have had on occasion a pad failure. The velcro backing has separated from the foam pad. Has anyone ever successfully reglued one? If so what did you use? I have an idea or two, but would like to hear some input from the forum gang here. I have several pads with no backing.

I have solved the problem by ordering two six-packs from ADS, but being the frugal one that I am, hate to throw away what might be salvageable resources.

I've never tried it but I have heard that Gorilla Glue works pretty good. I always read people trying it and having it work good for the first time but never seem to hear how it holds up in the long run. So what ever you try, please let us know how it works for you.

Try a heavy duty hot glue gun. I've had considerable success w/it especially on pressure surfaces like a PC pad/backing plate.

I agree with Blue Zero. I have heard people having luck with Gorilla Glue. I have used Gorilla Glue for other projects around the house with great success.

I have a 8006 that I used Gorilla Glue on and it's still working. You need to spray the pad and backing with water before spreading out the glue. There might be something better but so far it's held up.

I've read that Goop works good. I goop tons of stuff but haven't tried it on any pads. Haven't broke one.....Yet.

We've use your basic 2-part epoxy glues, any brand and that's always worked. Have used Gorilla Glue on a lot things but not pads and always had good luck. One thing about the Gorilla Glue is it seems to expand as it cures, this won't affect gluing Velcro to foam but it's not a replacement for things like wood glue where you wouldn't want your glue expanding when joining two pieces of wood together.

I have epoxied the backing plates back on in the past. Works well.

This is what I have used and worked very well.
Goop product spread evenly, followed by a hot iron on the pad. You will need to place a heavy cloth between the pad the iron to prevent melting the pad. The iron helps fuse the glue together. The pad has never failed on me ever since.

Thank you all for the replies. Of all the downright weird things I have "adhesed" in the past, I could not remember ever gluing foam. I had thought about Gorilla Glue, but was concerned with the expansion factor. I also considered 2 part epoxy. I think I will go with that one first. I have a few pads to experiment with. Have another idea too, I'll keep you posted.

I've used Gorilla Glue on two 9006 and one Lake Country CSS pad without any problem. I've used the pads for several month now without any issues. I noticed the Gorilla glue would expand upon applying, so I would use a spare CD case with a couple of books on top for weight. This allowed the adhesive to dry evenly.

I totally agree, I've used on several pads, it holds up very well, but you have to be careful when applying because it does expand. definately place something with weight on top of it until it dries.

Hey, Polyurethane glues like Gorilla Glue are great for wood. They’re very strong, have good open time, are sandable, paintable, stainable and waterproof too.

They do require either clamping or joints that are self holding, like mortises and tenons.

The expansion is actually a feature if your joints aren’t particularly precise. The squeezeout is easy to scrape too.

I've used both Gorilla Glue and Super Glue without any problems. It does make the top rather stiff after gluing so many times, but none the less, the pads still work great.
