Meguiars Cleaner/Wax question

I plan on claying my car this week. The Meguiars clay kit I got came with a small bottle of the liquid cleaner/wax. After claying, I would like to put a coat of this cleaner/wax on followed by a coat of NXT 2.0. Are there any issues with layering these 2 waxes that I need to be aware of? What is the cure time for the cleaner/wax? Would the NXT polymers bond to the surface properly?

Are all Meguiars waxes layerable?

Just out of curiosity, have you been reading about detailing on other forums? (just a guess )

1. There are no issues with layering any Meguiar's wax over any other Meguiar's wax and in most cases any other wax on the market. Most people make a bigger deal about this then will ever matter and Newbies that discover forums start reading all the misinformation all over the Internet and sometimes get the impression that the wax they apply to their car's paint won't properly bond for supposedly this reason or that reason.

Truth is, you'll NEVER go out to your car in the morning and find that over night the wax slid off the paint and piled up on the garage floor because it didn't properly bond to the paint.

2. The Swipe Test

The Swipe Test actually apples to most waxes and paint sealants on the market it's just that none of the other companies know how to explain it or have a venue like this forum to provide this kind of information.


3. Of course the NXT Tech Wax will bond to your car's paint.

Best thing to do is to get a bottle and then go out into your garage and work on your car, if you do a good job of claying and using the cleaner/wax, (these to products and steps will clean the paint leaving it perfect for a coat of NXT), then the NXT will take the results of these two steps to an even higher level.

Stated very simply: NXT works great over the cleaner/wax. Go for it.

Then as Mike says: "Find something you like and use it often"

NXT works well for me. I apply one coat to my vehicles every 6-8 weeks. Most of the time I can get by without using a polish or cleaner/wax first.

I have done the clay, cleaner/wax, NXT process on both of my vehicles (both 2007s, so relatively new) and have been VERY pleased with the results. With that new of a vehicle, that has had pretty good surface upkeep, the cleaner/wax has just enough cleaner properties, then the NXT gives the knockout shine.

You won't have any problems. The more you learn on this forum the number of combos for layering wax is amazing. It all boils down to what Mike says. "find something you like and use it often". Good luck.
