Hey Everyone. I got a ? I have a 2006 Mustang Gt, and I wax it about every 3 months and wash it once a week. This past weekend and the last few times I waxed my car I noticed that on the surfaces that face upward (like the hood, roof, etc) has a grainy feeling even after washing and waxxing my car. I use the Meguiars 3 stage waxing system. The paint cleaner, the polish and then the wax. Even after this the paint still has a grainy feelinng. Is there any way to get rid of this? Is there anything I could do before starting the 3 step system? Thanks!

Re: Grainy Feeling
First off... Nice ride! Feel free to post photos.
Clay is your friend. Pick up a Quik Clay kit and give that a try. You are probably feeling bonded contaminates on the surface. I'll see if I can find a link on how to use the clay system.Scott

Re: Grainy Feeling
You want to clay your car. Most of that is probably paint over spray or some other type of industrial fallout (sap, paint, random floating junk).
Heres a good write up on how to clay: How-to Clay, using the Smooth Surface Clay Kit...
Hope that helps,

Re: Grainy Feeling
Thanks! I love it! As soon as I find my usbcable Ill post some pics. Now my brother is by no means a professional detailer, he is an amateur but he tried claying his car and he said that it looked good for awile and then went down hill. Now from what I understan claying takes off a thin layer of clear coat. Wouldnt that be bad t do over and over again. Is claying something you do all the time?

Re: Grainy Feeling
Clay does not remove any clear coat. That's a pretty common mistake that people think. Clay is designed to skim across the surface just removing the contaminates that are stuck to the surface. Make sure to use plenty of Quik Detailer for lube and it will just glide across. As far as how often to clay, it's a hard answer with out knowing where your car is kept. I used to work right next to a freeway it would pick up all sort of grim, now I work somewhere else and it stays pretty clean. You can clay as often as you need to and not worry about wearing through the clear.Scott

Re: Grainy Feeling
The main reason is to minimize the amount of dirt/grime that gets transfered from your wash mitt to your car and back onto the car. So one bucket it supposed to be pure water (straight from the hose or what not) and the other is supposed to have your water and soap solution. The idea is you put your wash mitt in the soap/water bucket, wash a panel then rinse it off in the pure water bucket to remove all the dirt and grime you just pulled off the car. Then you get more soap/water and wash the next panel. So technically, each time you wash a panel your using fresh, dirt free water/soap. This greatly minimizes the amount of swirls and scratches instilled in your paints finish.
Hope this clears things up...

Re: Grainy Feeling
Yea, that works. A lot of people put one in both, but personally I find it redundant. What you said makes more sense to me.
