  • Wax suggestions & other questions

    All,

I am wondering what kind of wax to use on my black SUV and silver sedan. I've read that the NXT wax is great for dark colors, but what wax should I use with my silver sedan? I live just outside of Houston, TX and we are daily drivers, however, both cars are garaged when we come home from work.

My other question is whether the NXT wax has the conditioning oils found in the other Meguiars waxes?

A 3rd question I have is when I clay a car, do you clay in a circular motion or in a linear fashion?

My 4th question is whether the Meguiars cleaner/wax can remove the type II water spots (one that is etched in, not the one that is simply mineral deposit)?

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to MOL!

    4. Cleaner wax will not remove etched in water spots. You will need a polish for that. You could try ScratchX. The problem is you need to remove some clear coat to remove the etching and cleaner wax just won't do that.

    3. I always clay side to side. Never tried circular. Not sure it will make a difference.

    2. I believe it does have some of the oils. Not 100% sure on this but it does darken the paint so I am guessing yes.

    1. NXT will work great on any color. If you have a walmart near by you can check and see if they have the gift kits with the new NXT 2.0. It's a great deal.

      4. As far as cleaner/waxes, ColorX is stronger than the regular Cleaner/Wax, so if that is all you have time for, then pick ColorX and work it in well. But ScratchX would be best by hand.

      3. Claying can be done in any old direction, as long as it is all well lubricated. Really, going in a couple directions is best, just like with cleaning ,waxing, etc, to make sure you cover everything.

      2. Probably some, but it would not be considered a polish/wax.

      1. Yeah, try to look for the 2.0 products if possible.

Just one thing here...I think the technical term used by Meguiar's for ScratchX is a paint cleaner, not a polish.
