  • #66 questions

I've seen a few people mention using 66 to remove swirls. I have a black car that I would like to remove as much of the swirls as I can, but I'm working with 1996 Nissan paint, which is not the best. I used Zaino in the past and it did a good job of filling in the swirls and making them disappear for a time, but it was a hassle to mix the bottles and only apply so much in a 24 hr period. Does 66 do the samething as Zaino, or is there a Meguiars product that will "fill in" swirls?

If used properly, #66 will remove some of the swirls, not just fill them in.

Are you working by hand, or machine?

M66 is the strongest of the cleaners in the Meguairs line.

      there's #6, Colour-x and 66.

it is also a good choice with scratch sensitive paints.

also you know, you don't want to fill in swirls you want to remove them.

      personally, i'd try.

      wash
      clay
      M80
      #66
then your choice of wax x 2.

I'm working by machine. I've used 83 and it got rid of most of them, but I didn't have the correct amount of light, so some of them stayed. I also have some 80 and I think 82, but I would have to look.

I know I need to remove them instead of filling them, but I'm just worried I'll keep removing too much paint and damage it. My car is single stage.

M83 didn't get rid of them all?

did you only make one pass?

did you work in long enough?

M83 is more aggressive then M80, so you might have to go to rotary.

oh its single stage, well, try M80 and work in it properly and concentrate on small areas at a time.

The 83 removed most, but I didn't have enough light to see the sides of the car like I needed to. I've bought a dual 500watt halogen light than I'll use this time. I was going to start my spring cleaning soon, and wanted to make sure I had everything before hand. Before I found this site last summer, I was happy if the car looked good and wasn't concerned as much with swirls. Now I don't want to drive the car when I can see them, even if 90% of the people won't notice.

one of the reasons why I hate Meguiars

proper lighting makes a huge difference.

slow down your arm speed with M83. it should make a difference.

it all comes down to technique in the end.
