I waxed before I polished

I waxed my brand new car before I polished it. I used NXT Tech wax and the NXT speed detailer. But I wanted to use the number 7 Glaze on the car. Whats the best way to start over. Is it to just add the Glaze now? Or just wash the car with GC or NXT wash and add the glaze and then wax it again?

If you wash the car with a diluted dish detergent it should safely strip off the wax, leaving the paint exposed for polishing. It seems like the easiest way to me.

I would agree with this. While washing with dish soap is not something you want to do on a regular basis, once a year or so, or in an "emergency" such as this, isn't going to hurt anything.

No need to use dishsoap anywhere near your car.

If your car is still clean, you can just wash, apply the #7, then apply wax again.

If your car has been getting some of the daily grime, etc on it, then you will probably want to use a mild cleaner like Deep Crystlal #1 to clean the paint anyway, then #7 and wax.

Heck, you can even clay if it you havent yet before using the cleaner.

with Murr1525 I think there is no harm in applying #7 over it as long as the finish is still clean just wash #7 and NXT again. But if you really really want to strip off the wax you applied the suggestion of Mike-in-Orange and Matthew wont do any harm either but I think you still have a clean finish so you can just follow the suggestion of Murr1525.

While usually I agree with Mike-in-Orange, I do not see any reason to use dishsoap on your car. I suggest you just wash it and then apply #7 and another coat of wax if your car is still clean; if not, I suggest you use clay and/or paint cleaner first. Pretty much like Murr1525 said.

Personnal their is no right or wrong way...you can use the dawn soap to strip the wax or you can just use your your regular car wash, then clay and you will be set to polish the car. People have been using dish soap on their cars for years and most dont ever have a problem, they just dont know it will strip any wax that was on the car , but if they are using the dish soap on every wash they probly never really wax their car as it is.If you have never clayed the car it will be well worth it as far as prepping the finish for polishing and wax, and you will see a big difference..

The only reason I concurred on the suggestion to use dish wash soap is because the OP wants to apply #7, a pure polish, and he's already got a coat of NXT Tech down on the car. I think to get the most out of #7 it needs to be applied to the paint, not a coat of wax. As it has no cleaning abilities it's not going to remove that coat of NXT Tech.

If the OP had accidentally skipped a cleaner/polish step then I would have recommended just a good Gold Class or NXT wash and then polish since this type of product would remove the NXT Tech. But he didn't.

I waxed my '05 Neon long before I did the other steps (with NXT)

I later, clayed the whole car (read that strips the wax I think), ScratchX, then cleaner wax, then polish with the 3 step polish stuff, then GC liquid wax, my car turned out awesome and the pictures I posted didn't do the car justice. The Orange Blast paint turned out awesome (see my show off)

I have in the past used dish soap and it does work, but I had bad water spots if washed on a hot day, thus would probably have to polish anyway. Claying removes surface contaminants as I removed a ton of overspray and junk on my Neon which made the paint smooth as a baby's rump. I then did the above steps.

Also...don't use cheap MF towels. I used the Costco bulk yellow MF towels and the Walmart blue MF towels and had trouble with swirling, I broke out my Meguiars MF towels and they are softer to the touch and I did not run into swirling problems after using them. I will demote my yellow and blue ones to door jamb/engine bay and window washing details.
