  • Question about which Edge 2K pad to use with Meguiars M80?

    I just ordered some Meguiars M80 Speed Glaze. I have a PC7424 with the Edge 2K 6" pads.

    I have the White Polishing Pad, Blue Finishing Pad, Green Medium/Light Cut Pad, and the Orange Heavy Cut pad.

    I am curious as to what forum members here believe would be the best pad to use for applying M80?

    Also, does M80 come off LSP ready, or is there a fairly good chance that I am going to have to follow up with something else to get rid of any hazing and or marring?

    All comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    I would go with Green Cut Pad

    M80 is LSP ready if you think your paint is ready for it. What I mean is if, to you, the paint looks like you want it to, put a LSP on.

      I did have one more question regarding Meguiars M80. Does it stain plastic trim? I have a black car with black trim, so that is important.

      I know that taping off a car is always preferred, but I have never taped off my car before using Poorboys and Optimum polishes, and have had no staining problems at all.

      I just want to make sure that M80 doesn't stain trim on contact. Anyone with experience using M80 on black trim?

        Use the green Edge 2k pad.

        M80 has never stained trim in my experience. Try to avoid at all possible though.

        You should be able to go straight to wax after M80.

          Trim on cars are different. Some will stain, some won't. On my neon, everything stained, on my mustang, it wipes right off. Might check a small spot and find out.

            Edge 2000 6" system

            yellow= heavy cutting
            green= medium cutting
            orange= light cutting
            Blue= polishing/finishing
            white= waxing sealing

            If #80 is all you have I would use orange and then follow up with blue. Try the blue first though.

              Coupe,

              There is an ongoing thread about the Edge 2K pad systems over at Autogeek. The actual President and CEO posted on the thread to clear any confusion on the pads. Apparently the Orange 6" pad is actually the highest cutting pad they make.

              According to the President and CEO, "In my opinion, the Orange Pad is very agressive, and cuts faster than any of our foams which puts it in my book as the most agressive pad."

              The new and corrected list of 6" Edge Pads in order of agressiveness are:

              Orange
              Yellow
              Green
              Blue
              White
              Red

                Red
                The orange would be used for putting bonnets on, like the Meguiars red pad.
