  • NXT wax on painted (not clearcoat) wheels?

I am told that my Rota Slipstreams are clear coated but it looks like only the front of the wheel has clearcoat (the entire wheel is painted). The front is very smooth and shiny, the inner part is less shiny and ruff. I want to wax the wheels before putting them on the car, but I am not sure if it is ok to wax the part that appears to not be clear coated. If someone can verify the entire wheel is clearcoated, then this isn't an issue. If not, is it ok to use NXT wax on clearcoat and non-clearcoat?

My concern comes from hearing of being cautious when cleaning painted parts of cars that do not have a clear coat. For example, the MINI Cooper has a modern clearcoat paint job, but the engine compartment has no clear coat. I have heard of the paint being easily damaged when cleaning it.

While your best bet would be to contact Rota directly I'd be willing to bet that the entire wheel is clear coated but the manufacturing process is such that the inside portion of the wheel just doesn't get the attention to detail that the face of the wheel does.

I have painted/clear coated wheels on two of my cars, from two different aftermarket suppliers, and in both instances the inside of the wheel is cosmetically not as pretty as the face. I wax my wheels all the time, but I've never waxed the inside areas. I do spray them down with a wheel cleaner and brush them clean with each wash though. About the only problem I see happening is, if the finish is rough enough, you may have a problem removing the wax. Otherwise, if you're comfortable waxing the face of the wheel I wouldn't worry about damaging the inside areas just by waxing them.
