  • Pics from my first attempt with #80 - Blackbird

Hi, everybody! It's the 'Ol Blackbird, back on the board. This is getting to be a habit - but a fun one, I must say!

Here are some pics (still trying to figure this part out, but I think I've got it.......thanks again to 2hotford and kellyinkc and Mike P for all your help with this. Hopefully, I've posted these pics correctly!!

Anyway, this is my wife's 2000 Honda Accord.......as you can see, it's tan, so the results are not as dramatic as my red Acura. But, I hope you can see at least SOME improvement - I can. (say, speaking of which, does anybody have a recommedation for a good "swirl" light?) Thanks!

On to the pics: (see Blackbird crossing his fingers and toes....)

The "befores" - just a couple....

    And now the "afters".......

Well, folks, that's it..........what do you think? Not bad, but I think next time I'll try some #83 first, then finish it out with either #80 or #66, and my fav topper, #26. Any thoughts, suggestions?

    Thanks!! Blackbird

Thanks, Kellyinkc!!! Yeah, it doesn;t exactly "pop", but the finish does seem to have a "buttery smooth" look and feel to it. My wife was verrrry happy, and she never says much about her car. So, if she's happy, then I am happy as well.......

Thanks, Monk! #80 is a nice product to work with - it stays nice and "wet" for a while - I think Mike P called it "play time".

          Megs is the best!!!!!!!

Looks like you got some great results there Blackbird. As for using 83 next time around........not so sure I would if I were you. If you got results this nice with 80 then you don't need to get any more aggressive. Remember, always use the least aggressive products to get the job done. Looks to me like you got the job done with 80!

Nice job. I think #80 worked out real good for you. Why do you want to try something more agressive? Again, nice job.

Great results!!! As for a swirl finder light, I would recommend the Brinkman Dual Xenon. I know many people have it, including me, and you might still find one half off at a Tuesday Morning store. If you do a thread search, you would probably find other posts about it.

Hi, Mike-in-orange..........thanks. I guess I should have clarified myself better. I think I would try some #83 on the worst spots (ie. I think it's the 3rd "after" pic........it seems to me I can still see some evidence of swirls.) I thought it might be fun to try and see if I could remove them where they are bad (hopefully without hurting the clearcoat!!) Prob would not do the whole car (especially since vertical panels don't seem to show swirls as much as the horizontal ones.)

I do appreciate your comment about trying to use the least aggressive product, though. It's just that I went over the trunk and hood 3 times with #80, and I could swear that I still saw some swirls. (or, my old eyes are playin' tricks again!!!!) And, since my wife's car is also a daily "beater" with a 40 minute commute each way every day, maybe I'll just leave well enough alone!!

                          Thanks much, though!!!

Hey, vettemaniac, is that a Dodge Challenger as your avatar?? Why not a vette?? Haaaa!!! Thanks for the tip about the Brinkman light; I think I've seen a pic of one, but cannot find them in any stores in NH. I haven't looke everywhere, but where I have - no luck. Might buy one online.

And, acsuppa, I was quite happy with the #80 results; I am just curious if #83 might remove even more defects on hood and trunk. But I understand I must not go "nuts' and risk burning the cc. It can become an obsession........like anything.

                            All best to you both.........'Bird

Ooops!!! Make that the 2nd "after" pic - if you look Really close - still some swirls........I think.
