  • Am I missing anything? (Initial, big purchase)

Hi all, thanks so far for everyone's help with my questions. I think I'm gonna take the plunge and buy the G100 (and prolly be addicted for life )... This is what I plan on buying and what I have. Am I missing anything? I'll be working on my newish car and my relatives' cars.

    To buy:
    G100
    Backing plate?
    7006 - 1
    8006 - 4
    9006 - 2
1 MF bonnet for wax removal
    #7 - 16oz
    #80 - 32oz
    #82 - 32oz
    #83 - 32oz
    ColorX (for sister's car)
    Mild Clay - 200g
    2x Quick detailer - 32oz
    3x supreme shine
    1x water magnet
    Megs versa-angle wheel brush
    2x grit guard

    Currently have:

    1 Water magnet
    1 supreme shine MF
    GC wash
    DC wash
    GC wax
    ScratchX
    Gold class All-wheel cleaner
    Hot rims tire spray
    NXT Tire cleaner foam
    3 decent non-megs MF polishing
    6 decent non-megs 100% terry
12 MF "rag-pack" from wal-mart (will rarely actually touch the paint)
2 MF applicators, 2 foam apps (wont be using since I'll have PC)
Megs tire brush and interior all-surface brush

I must say... Meguiar's products have been excellent so far and I find myself going out to buy their products specifically because of the results I've seen on this site and the knowledge/helpfulness of Mike Phillips and the Megs staff. Thanks for the great results so far, and I hope I'll be all set to really make my cars shine after this

Any feedback is appreciated! I might get #21 too, but dont think I need it at this point. A good way to finish is 1 coat #7 and 1 coat GC wax, right?

    Thanks in advance!

With using #80, #7 would be a bit more optional. And 2 coats of wax would be best, not one.

As far as your products, you might want a few more towels as far as Water Magnets and Supreme Shines depending on how you break up your Megs and non-Megs towels,, a few bonnets, and you'll still need foam applicators (the PC doesnt fit everywhere).

You might want to get the How-To get a Show Car Shine with a PC DVD by Mike and Richard if you havent yet.

You may or may not want to get the interior, glass, etc type products, and a jug of APC or APC+ is hard to resist... and whatever this new product is... have to have that... Oh the list could go on...

thanks for the quick and knowledgable replies. boy thats a lot of towels lol

yeah ill be getting the dvd, which will prolly answer a lot of my n00b questions

do i need 3 bonnets because they get saturated with wax, or why?

I figure Ill need 1 7006 for the bonnet
        3x 8006 (1 for 80, 1 for 82, 1 for 83, 1 for ??)
        2x 9006 (1 for wax, 1 for ... 7?)

in what situations would i use #66? Is it like a combo of #82 and wax, in effect? Maybe I'll hold off on #66 and #26 for now? i figure for LSP i'd do GC or NXT tech wax, ::shrug::

I guess a gallon of #80 is good, it must go quickly cuz its so versatile. I need a small squirt bottle or something to put it on my pads, yeah?

Here is my take on everything:

#66 is like #80 and a wax. It can be used very effectively to remove some pretty decent sized defects.

Do you have to have #82? I would personally just go with #80 and be done with it.

The amount of product you need really depends on how many cars you do and how much you use. For examply, I don't detail a ton of cars, so at most I would go through a gallon of #80 per year.

NXT and GC are very fine waxes. #26 would be used for those show cars you might detail.

Although I've always known about removing wax with a bonnet, I have never tried it myself. Maybe it is because that those MF towels do a great job anyways. I usually go through three MF towels per detail.
