long story short, I have been polishing my car one area at a time. i did my trunk lid and my roof a couple weeks ago, and this weekend I did my entire driver's side, tonight I hope to complete the hood. I am using a G100 83, 80, and 21.
It is coming out ok, 80% of the micro-marring is gone, however, i only washed the car once between doing the roof and trunk lid, i noticed there was already micro marring and swirls. so i am guessing my washing is the culprit.
i currently use one bucket and a lambs-wool ( i think synthetic mit). I already plan on placing an order with ADS for a grit guard and will start the 2-bucket method, but i need some advice on washing mits and drying. i currently use an absorber to dry, this could be bad too. I am thinking of ordering 3 water magnets (anyone use the new california kinda on the ADS site?) a versa angel brush and a mf mit. any thoughts? I really just want to minimize re-swirling the car after spending hours getting the swirls out.

The Absorber won't swirl by itself but if you got any dirt underneath it the dirt could have caused swirls.

You could do a test spot to find what in your process is causing the swirls. Polish the spot so that it has no marring then try your regular routine on the spot but do each technique in a distinctive direction, up and down with the mitt, side to side with the Absorber, etc.

Water Magnets are great. If I was buying more I'd seriously consider getting the marine line Water Magnets. They're huge. (ADS sells them too.)

The Versa-Angle Body Brush is definitely a good tool to keep around. I use mine all the time. If you don't have any of the brushes yet, get them while you can. They've been discontinued so when the stock that's out there gets sold they're gone.

I usually use microfiber mitts. They're very gentle and you can just wash and dry them with your mf towels.

I haven't tried ADS's waffle weave but I do use some of their other house brand towels and they are very good.

I'm using a microfiber wash sponge, 2-bucket, and a Grit Guard in the water-only bucket. I plan to get another GG for the soap bucket. I use NXT wash. Dry with a large microfiber drying towel followed by a Water Magnet.

I've seen Mike's "How To Wash a Car" video on Autopia. He recommends a lambswool wash mit. I may try one when my two sponges wear out, but when I look at the length of the fibers it would seem more prone to trappng tar/grit particles than the shorter microfiber wash sponges. Mine are nothing fancy, from Wal-Mart I believe.

I've found that the microfiber drying towel can feel a bit hard after just one drying, until it gets wet again. So I ususally wash them each time, but no fabric softener. But sometimes I'll do both vehicles with the same set of towel/Water Magnet.

its not that the brushes are bad, i just have this thing that i won't let the brushes touch the car. only the tires.

for the car i have a Chenille mit. i think its awesome. no complaints thus far. and it holds up after almost 50-100 washes.
