Newbie, F150 swirl suggestions

I have a brand new black 2007 F-150 that came with the DISO. Whenever I wash it, I use the two bucket method, NXT wash, and microfiber drying towels. I used scratch-x and NXT wax on it the last time I washed it (both by hand), with little improvement. I am thinking of investing in a G-100 PC. Do yall think this will help at all? Is it even worth doing it myself or do I need to get it professionally detailed to get rid of these swirls? If I do get the G-100, which pads/products would you recommend?

you have to upload the pics to a dedicated server, like tinypic.com, putfile.com, etc. dont use photobucket, as the pics will 'use too much bandwidth'.

a g-100 is great. they can do what your hand can do in 10 hours, in 15 minutes. this is a relazivly large question, so i'll let mike answer it, as i dont know the links to everything yet.

Hey Aaron,

Firstly, welcome to MOL!!!

Secondly, those swirl marks are very minor and should come come out quite easily using the correct tools for the job.

I would strongly suggest purchasing a G100 and backing plate. You will need:

1 - W-7006 Cutting Pad used with Microfiber bonnet for product removal only.
2 - W-8006 Pads Polishing Pad
1 - W-9006 Pad Finishing Pad

and a couple of 6.5" Microfiber bonnets sourced from Autodetailingsoultions.com

Like I said, those swirls do look minor and with the right tools should not be that difficult in removing!

Thank you very much for your responses. Should I use both #83 followed by #80 or just #80?

Hey Aaron,

I would buy both #80 and #83 just in case.

Meguiar's always suggests to use the least aggressive product first that will do the job. Therefore, I would use #80. If that does not do it after 2-3 attempts, then you may need to step up to #83, and then back down through #80.

Remember work each product until it become a light film/residue. This may take a few minutes over a 18"x18" section depending on humidity.

Otherwise, you need to remember, one pad per product and have a few microfiber towels for polish removal (the bonnet is used for removing the LSP - NXT etc)

Thanks again guys, you have been more than helpful. So I am going to go for the #80 and #83 them right? Anything else I should pick up? I was planning on claying the paint prior to all of this, is this ok? Oh yeah, how many coats of #80 should I apply before stepping up to #83?

Clay the car first. #83 is a lot more aggressive than # 80. Use 80 first and see what happens. It will do a lot as I am discovering. If that does not work step up to #83. Megs teaches one to us the least aggressive first.

wouldnt it be faster and less effort to just start off w/ 83 until 98% of swirls are gone and then switch to 80 to finish it off? it wouldnt hurt to use 83 anyways.... then just top it off w/ 7 and NXT

so as some ppl suggested.... 80 would be ur first choice and if that doesnt work then use 83..... 80 would be slower at taking out the swirls b/c its less aggressive but u dont have to go over it again w/ anything else after.... w/ 83 it'd be faster at ridding the swirls but since its more aggressive, the finish wouldnt be as clear if u dont go over it with 80 after... but its barely noticable really.... when you buff with 80/83.... ur not applying coats.... think of it as lubricants for the buffer as it rubs away a very very thin layer of paint until the paint level is level to where the bottom of the swirl marks were...so you just buff and buff until you dont see the swirls anymore....it sounds kinda scary but the amount of paint that a pc and 83/80 takes out is not significant enough to make u worry even if u do it all the time.....

and when you buffing w/ the pc.... apply about 20lbs of pressure on top of pad.... hold and press down on the top of the buffer instead of holding onto the plastic handle....
