Re: Results of my tests with #66 Quick Detailer - and pics!!! Blackbird

I think 66 is very similiar to 80, as they have the same cutting ability on the scale on the front of the bottle. 66 has some very good cleaning ability as well and is a very underated product in my book.

      Re: No harm, no foul..........Blackbird

Hey, Trufflepig.........please know that I took no offense to your comment about the swirls. I know it's not perfect; AND, I appreciate any comments. The way I see it, this is all a learning experience; I am a teacher by vocation. I believe that with something like this, we learn by doing and sharing. We help each other by pointing out things to each other - good and bad. Sure, we always try to express our thoughts in "positive" ways. Again, I had no prob with your observation, and did not see your comments as negative. Just wanted to tell you that........at the same time, thanks to

Next - I think this forum is a wonderful way to share expertise and ideas about this "crazy" thing we do - by that I mean "obsessing" about our vehicles. I am terrible - just ask my wife - if I get splashed by another car, or have to drive thru a puddle, as soon as I get home I am drying or wiping the car down with detailing spray. Imagine a grown man caring that much about a car?? But, I am "car crazy", and love every minute of the obsession.

My little car is a daily "beater"; that's why I don't try for a "flawless" finish. With a 40 minute commute each way every day, I don't think it would stay perfect very long. But, meg's products help to get my vehicle to what Mike P calls "my level of satisfaction". That's a perfect way to express it, I think. I try to make the color "pop" if I can, but the minor swirls do not bother me that much.

Anyway, thanks again to you and everyone for expressing your thoughts; I have learned so much form you all. By the way, tomorrow I am hoping to do my first test of #80 Speed Glaze - on my wife's 200 Honda Accord - it is a tan car. On her car, I am actually going to try to remoce the swirls. Will try to take some before and after pics to show. Mike P, if you happen to read this, I would appreciate any help to get my pics on the website the "right way". Thanks so much!!!!!

To answer some other "replies" - yep my name Blackbird is from my OLD computer online days - pre-Windows!!! When the INET was 40 cents a minute, and there were no ICONS!!!!!! On Compuserve it was "GO" this and "GO" that........I became an amazing typist; alas, have lost much of that skill. Genie was another service like Compuserve.

To the question about #80 being a stronger cleaner than #66 - I will leave that to the experts on here - I have yet to use #80 - like I said a moment ago, my very first experience with #80 will be (hopefully) tomorrow. I will say this - I think #66 did a good job of cleaning my clearcoat - to my old eyes the Red looks brighter - if I'm not wrong, that means the clearcoat is indeed clearer / cleaner.

Finally, YES - I LOVE the PC - man, so much less fatigue than doing the whole car by hand!!!!!!!!!

All right, I must go help clean a closet. Wish me luck!
      Talk to y'all later........

      All best,
      Blackbird

        Hey Blackbird,

          Re: I didn't finish a thought - Duh!!! Blackbird

First of all - to 2hotFord - thanks for the link about posting pics........before I get to my question to you, let me finish a thought from my last posting. At the end of the first paragraph, I started to thank the person who was "sticking up" for me and my work. I appreciate your concern, but I am also certain that Trufflepig meant no disrespect to me or my work..........but thanks for your kind words.

Now, back to 2hotford..........I am still confused - you see, I never see the greenish page that has the IMG tag on it. My old eyes must just be missing it. Could you help me to see it? (Like........where the heck is it?)

Thank so much!!!!! BTW, I am a Middle school Band Director, with 114 kids in my program (in grades 5 thru 8.) Been doing that for about 24 years. Great kids........love every minute of it.

All right - going to post this here and as a new thread in Detailing 101 - hope that's okay. But will check this area again later.

          All best,
          'Bird

wow thats great improvement.... bet ur arm is sore now..... hahaha..... maybe you can try 83 to try and get rid of those last swirls and then top it off with 66.... with proper car wash techniques and maybe once a month quick touch up with 66 or color x i think even a daily driver can stay pretty much flawless all the time....

Re: Results of my tests with #66 Quick Detailer - and pics!!! Blackbird

If you have #83, you I suggest you use that first, before using the #66. #83 and #80 both do a great job of removing the defects on the surface, though #66 is more of a filler.

I know that it is rated as with the same cut as #80, but in my experience I have found this to be untrue. I have done side by side testing on my hood with #80 and #66 and the afters where similar. However, after I wiped the hood with alcohol to remove any product (and fillers) on the paint, the #80 side remained defect free while the side with #66 some of the marring return. Though the side with #66 did look better then before I buffed it.

I would use #83 first to cut and remove most of the defects. You might have some hazing or micromarring after polishing, which #66 would remove cleanly. Just a suggestion of course.

Also, with #66, I like to finish one panel (lets say the hood) and an adjacent section like the door. Then I go back and wipe the first section clean. Then maybe I would do the other door, and after finishing, wipe the first door clean. Repeat this and it will be very easy to remove with no problems!
Let's make all of the cars shiny!

Re: Wow!! So many great responses!! This is a great site!! Blackbird

Good Sunday morning (well, at least it's great here in Na Hamshah!!!!) - it's the 'Ol Blackbird, here just for a couple of minutes. I am going to try and do my wife's car today with #80 - my first time with that product.

Thanks everyone for the tips, comments, etc. about #66. Yeah, I liked working with it; it seemes like it "cleaned" the clearcoat on my car a bit. Funny that I didn't really notice that the Clearcoat was getting "dirty" until I stepped back after using #66. Someone at the Karate Dojo where I teach and study said to me........."hey, Sensei Ray, your car looks really "wet". Prob next time I will try #80 on my car, after I experiment of the wife's, of course - .

Thanks for the tip on #83........may try that sometime.......

Anyway, I must go out to my garage now and start on the wife's Accord.
Got to clay it first, then straight to #80 with the PC, then will prob top with my fav wax, #26.

Woo Hoo!! Wish me luck!! I'll try to post some before and after pics (or maybe a test spot pic shwoing before and after).

                  All best,
                  'Bird
