  • Question about microfiber towels

I was doing research on microfiber towels.

No local autoparts place carries the Meguiar's brand so I could see what a good one feels like since everyone says they can tell by feel.

It seems all local ones have 3rd party brands (Mirage at Advance, AutoZone brand at AutoZone). The autozone ones were 85/15 and they had 3 special purpose types for polishing, glass, and drying. I could see a difference in the weavings. They were not cheap. I think I heard 80/20 blend is a better. I still have to check out Pep Boys.

What other characteristics define a good MF towel?

You know, I have about 30 of those Mirage towels and I love them. They've always worked great for me.

I would buy Meguair's if I could get it locally but after reading labels and seeing differences it seems like a lot more choices. If one size/type is really suitable for any purpose, I am ok but just trying to find out.

        Re: Question about microfiber towels

There is one thing I know about this subject and it's unfortunately not going to help much.

That one thing is ....... drum roll....... there is enough info out there (right or wrong) about microfibers (types, manufacturing, blends etc....) to make your head explode!

So, I just stick with Meg's.

Here is just a few example's:

          Re: Question about microfiber towels

I have a couple of the blue Autozone towels (blue are for drying) and they seemed great until I got some Meguiars Supreme Shine. I actually can tell a difference between the two brands. Now I only use the Autozone brand for things like glass cleaning, or maybe backup drying towels. Try to find the Meguiars if you can. I think they make a big difference. Just my 2 cents.

            Re: Question about microfiber towels

I went to Pep Boys tonight and they carried most of the Meguiar's line so I picked up the cleaning cloth and drying towel. I also purchased 3 smaller ones for interior use.

              Re: Question about microfiber towels

I went and bought several good MF towels to dry my car after reading how good they were. Well, I am not impressed. I use the blotting method, and they don't work that well...at least for me. My 100% cotton terry towels were better. My neighbor has a Mr. Clean system, and it seems to work great. He just lets it dry on its own, and then a little detail wax, and he is done, and having a beer while I am still drying. "Gonna get me one of dem"

                  Re: Question about microfiber towels

i cant find the meguiars mf towels here either... i can get everything else. and i do... but i use microtex mf towels... they are blue and white.. walmart autozone and advance auto carry them... make sure you feel them first to make sure they are soft and not "crusty" or hard... they works well, but i still use "the absorber" for drying my car.
