This is one that could go on forever. I have been of the theory that you go with the lines of the body of the car, so yes, side to side. I was always told that anytime you go in circles you promote swirl, even if it's a great product and proper application material. But if I'm trying to avoid the buffer and work on problem spots, it's circular.

That dont make any sense though. If what your saying was remotely true you would have straight line marring instead of circular marring. In other words it would make no difference which way you do it becuase you would end up with marring either way.

If you wipe in circles the swirls, and have the misfortune of inducing swirls, they would be visible from any angle. Swirl would have 360 degrees so you can view it more easily. Still, it is better not to induce the swirls in the first place.

Wiping in a circle, in and of itself, does not induce swirls if you are using the right product and application material. You would have to have some kind of contaminant and/or an abrasive product (or applicator) to induce swirls.

Danny, you should have heeded my warning....

Blaming the MOL member (JMatt) above for not understanding you is inappropriate. Instead of simply apologizing for your tone, you chose to blame others for not understanding you.

You create a very argumentative atmosphere which is something that is not tolerated here on MOL. Further, you have been warned several times as well as given "time outs" in hopes that before you returned that you would have spent time doing some self reflection in the way people communicate on Internet Forums. People on MOL are only here to help, and I have yet to hear a negative comment about not getting help.

Yup, he was banned - says under his name. He was nowhere near as bad as one member on Tweaktown Forums. This guy claimed that he had 9200 rpm and 1100 rpm hard drives and he repeatedly claimed that a S478 Pentium is equal to a new Core 2 Duo. Plus he insulted me (claimed he blew me up using 25 grams of c4 ???) and the moderators - a big no no.

Anyways, my method of application usually depends on the product. If it is a cleaner, I work it in using many overlapping circles. I would usually go over it atleast 6 times when the product was still wet. I used quite a bit of passion to thoroughly clean the paint. For polishes, I overlapped maybe once or twice, but I used some faster circles with less pressure. I hardly use any pressure when I wax. I usually overlap once or twice. Then, I got a PC...

It usually depends on how much time I have left to complete the detail. It depends on the level of perfection - for example a show car. It also depends on the original condition of the paint - I use more passion with a paint cleaner if the paint is exceptionally oxidized or scratched up.

I do not post often, but read what you people write and rely on your expertise to get my cars looking as good as I can at my age and without a DA. I have learned a lot and find it funny that the method I have used for years to wash and wax have been wrong! I was always told that my cars looked the best in the neighborhood.

I also agree about Danny, however, as a father to a 15 and 19 year old, I do understand that sometimes they may say things that are a little out of line! It was the same between me and my Father! With my kids, I have to sometimes go over what they are saying several times until they understand the true meaning so they "get it" and understand the implications their words may have on people. Danny is a very intense and attentive kid when it comes to his ride and probably in other areas of his life. That is a great and wonderful trait and he probably forgot about the etiquette and protocol expected out of him on this forum. I am sure that as he matures in wisdom he will see the errors of his way and correct it as my children have! No, I am not a shrink and I don't play one on T.V., I am humbly, just a Dad!

B.T.W. As I learned long ago, the circular overlapping application is the way I roll!
