  • Rotary feels uncontrolable!!

I don`t know if I am doin something wrong or what!?
    But I do know this:
    1. I don`t know how much product to put on the pad
    2. I don`t know how much pressure to put on the buffer
    3. I don`t know which speeds I have to use on the different applications
    4. I don`t know how to operate the rotary! (sideways, forward, backwards...)
    5. I`m pretty much green to this!

Anyway, I`m not satisfied with the work I did on the hood, after putting on the wax and when I tried to take it off by hand it was like rubbing off rubber!

The rotary seems to go with the flow and not where I want it to.....

    HELP

    Re: Rotary feels uncontrolable!!

    1. Put the product in a line on the surface of the paint, not the pad. Put the machine on the paint and start it up at the end of the bead of product, then pick it up with the rotary on a slow speed. This will avoid sling. Bump up the speed after the product has been spread around your working surface if you're using a polish.
    2. No pressure, the weight of the rotary should suffice.
    3. Keep it between 1000-1500RPM for polishes. Once you get more practice with different polishes and pads you'll get a better feel for which RPM to use.
    4. Just keep practicing. At first its really awkward and it can even make you feel like you're not in control, but just keep practicing. After you do it a couple more times you'll get the hang of it. The first time I used a rotary I thought, 'Whoa! This thing is jumping all over the place!' Now I don't have that problem. I've also had a friend call me up asking me how to control the rotary after he used one for the first time. Again, he just kept at it and now controls it just fine.

So thats about it, just keep practicing (preferably on junk panels and beater cars) and you'll get the hang of it.

Were you using the rotary for applying wax or for doing corrective work with a compound/polish?

Sounds like if I ever pick one up I'll be starting with a junk car or panel.

        Re: Rotary feels uncontrolable!!

If you can get the PES101 video in your country, I'd suggest you to get it.

anothe tip would be to practice in a car that is in really bad shape. Rotary buffer damage can go up to the point of repainting panels. It's not like using an orbital polisher.

some waxes work with the rotary, and you must make sure the label says it's ok to use it with this machine.

and another thing: be patient with this machine It takes a lot of time to really know how to use it.

So keep on using it, but in things that you know they can't get worse, keep on the practice and then it will give you the results you want

we'll be here to help you if anything goes wrong or if you have further questions or doubts.

Yes, I used Deep Crystal paint cleaner, then I used Deep Crystal polish and at the end Deep Crystal carnauba wax.
          Rotary on they all!

When I was finished and I looked into the paint from the side in the glanze I see a lot of spots, almost like tiny tiny circles in the paint.....?!

I don't think any of those products you mentioned are approved for use with a rotary buffer! That is not a good thing, and may be the cause of your problems.

Usually you need to use some products from the Pro Line (#83 for swirls) when using a rotary. #3 or #80 could be used for polishing by machine, and #20 or #21 could be used for your LSP.

              Why dont you get a p.c ?
It takes more time to do a car but who`s in a rush when detailing a car?
You get a better feeling with the product, learn how it`s breaking down. You get much more playtime with the maschine,a royary breaks down the product much faster and in the beginning it`s hard to tell when it`s ready to wipe off.
And you dont want to dry buff,do you??
Detailing cars is a form of art. Most appreciate it, few possess the required skill and even fewer understand it.
