  • New Porter Cable Polisher

Hey guys, I am placing an order for the Meguiars G100 Electric Dual Action Polisher. Anyway's, what wax/polish would you guys recommend that I use? I currently have Zaino stuff, including the new Z-AINO (ALL IN ONE) stuff. However, I am open to suggestions on things that may work better. I have an 07 TSX that is Carbon Gray Pearl, and I really want it to pop. Anyway's, here are a few questions that I have.

    1. Will using the G100 DA Polisher make a difference in the depth of shine vs. waxing by hand?

    2. How many pads will I want to buy? I know that it comes with 1 W8006 Foam Polishing Pad. How long will this pad last me?

    3. If I want to remove scratches, what compound and what type of pad should I use?

    4. Is this thing totally safe? My main concern is burning my paint.

    5. Are there any goodies that you recommend getting with this?

    Thanks

    Re: New Porter Cable Polisher

Well, I took the plunge. I bought the G100 Electric Dual Action Polisher. I ordered an extra W8006 pad, and 2 W9006 Pads. Also, I got a sample of that speed glaze. Total came to about $200.00 Can anyone recommend anything else that I should get? What is the best/easiest/SAFEST stuff to use to get scratches out? Also, do I want to clean the pads after each use? If so, what is the best process for doing so? Thanks so much for all of your help. I've always wanted one of these, and now I am glad that I finally did it!

Yes, in all steps (cleaning, polishing, waxing) you will see a difference. Using a PC is easier, faster and you will get better results.

      2. How many pads will I want to buy? I know that it comes with 1 W8006 Foam Polishing Pad. How long will this pad last me?
Well this depends a little on how many products you are going to get... ideally you need one pad per product. Right now I have 4 - W8006's, 4 - W9006's and one W7006. The pad should last you a long time.

      3. If I want to remove scratches, what compound and what type of pad should I use?
Here is a post that will help:
Using the G-100 to remove swirls with the Professional Line

Are you trying to remove swirls and scratches?

      4. Is this thing totally safe? My main concern is burning my paint.
Yes, the PC is safe there is no worry about burning paint.

      5. Are there any goodies that you recommend getting with this?

      Thanks
Make sure you have plenty of microfibers on hand to remove the cleaners\polishes\waxes, I would suggest some Supreme Shine Microfibers.

Sounds like you have a very good start!

Read the post I have linked after question #3 above and that should help you out on what to use on scratch removal. Looks like you ordered #80 Speed Glaze, that is an excellent product and a favorite of many PC users, great start!

What are you going to be using as your wax?

Not sure, could you recommend a good wax/sealant that would bring out a really nice shine using the PC?

            Re: New Porter Cable Polisher

#26 seems to be the popular choice along with NXT.

              Re: New Porter Cable Polisher

You are using #80 first so your paint will be prepared for a pure wax, both NXT Generation Tech Wax and #26 - Hi-Tech Yellow Wax that tunnelengineer mentioned are in fact very good pure waxes another I might mention is #21 - Synthetic Sealant, its similar to NXT tech Wax but it is in the Pro Line if that is what you prefer.

Here is a link using #80 and 2 coats of NXT on black: Detailed the new Avalanche...

                Re: New Porter Cable Polisher

Which of the waxes mentioned obove will have the longest durability? I'd like to use something that won't require me to wax the car every couple of weeks, since this summer I will be gone from home for an extended period of time (about 2-3 months).

Meguiar's stance is that NXT is their longest lasting (ie, longest protecting) wax. That said, many people comment on how it seems to lose some of it's initial pop after just a couple of weeks, and much of the water beading seems to go away as well. The lack of beading is intentional as it is believe, and I think rightfully so, that tight beads of water help to concentrate mineral deposits on the paint for longer periods of time and in the case of acid rain this is a really bad thing. Sheeting has it's merits, that's for sure.

You may not like that aspect of it though. For my money dark gray metallics (your Carbon Gray Pearl, my Graphite Metallic) look incredible after polishing with M80 Speed Glaze (which you have) and M21 Synthetic Sealant (which I think you should get!!!). The image below is a little taste of what M80 & M21 will do for a dark gray metallic car.

                    Re: New Porter Cable Polisher

Mike's response above has been my experience and I prefer more a sheeting action with a wax for reasons stated above.

[OT] Mike, not sure I have seen a photo of your car before probably have but I forgot how good it looks! The wheels look great on the car.[/OT]
