Clay And Tar

Hello Folks,

Just finished putting the clay to my 2005 Odyssey. The flat surfaces seemed to be pretty clean. The the doors produced much more gunk.

Most of the gunk was a brown color and the rest looked like tar. I didn't see any large chunks of tar on the van before I started.

I quess my question is should the tar be removed by other means rather than the clay by using tar and bug remover or is it ok to remove tar with clay?

One more question. Should the clay remove water spots?

When doing a full detail, I tend to spritz a little bug and tar remover on the bad spots before washing, to try and get some of it to go away before claying. But that is what the clay is for, to remove the stuff you cant see, so dont be afraid if it picks some up.

There are two types of water spots. Spots that are etched into the paint, like a swirl basicaly, and spots that are still just mineral deposits and havent etched in yet (or a little of both). The clay can remove the deposits, but wont remove the etching. Like a swirl, you would need a paint cleaner like ScratchX, etc, to remove the etching.
