  • Layer #21 or top with #26?

Halfway through with the first major detail of the year. This is the first time I have tried #21 (following #80) and I am duly impressed. However, I am curious if layering two coats of 21 is better than one coat of 21 topped with 26? Durability of 26 does not concern me - a new coat of 26 (or 21 or NXT or Gold Class) is my weekend therapy

Best thing to do would be to tape off a small area and apply the M26 to this small section and after allowing it to dry and then wiping off the residue, "Inspect"

See for yourself which LSP looks best.

Use good lighting for your inspection.

      Thanks, Mike.

I read the "How to" thread and the link to an article on "layering". I might be one of those guilty of always trying something new - or at least, something new from Meguiar's! I will finish the first coat of 21 tomorrow, then wait a couple of days and put on a second coat. Wish the sun would shine so I could see what it looks like outside!!

I recently did a full detail on one of my cars and decided to go a little nuts, so after wash/clay/M80 I applied a coat of M21, let it haze for a couple of hours and buffed it off. The next day I applied a second coat of M21, let it haze for a couple of hours and buffed it off. The day after that I applied a coat of M16, let it haze for an hour and buffed it off. In all honesty I think this is going a wee bit overboard but man oh man did it look sweet. And it felt super slick too.

I was just in a crazy mood at the time and figured what the heck.

I'd say it depends what look you were going for. If you want some serious shine, #21 or even more so NXT is where its at. If you want black to look more black, or that dark metallic to have more depth, #26 is a better choice.
