  • Let us talk about ICE and ******....

I happen to be walking the local Pep Boys the other day when I saw two different kinds of waxes (there were more but these two stuck out) and I wanted to ask anyone here of their opinion, their friends opinion or maybe experience with regards to working with these items. The two products that I am referring to are Duponts ****** Wax and theTurtle Wax product ICE Liquid Polish.

I don't plan on converting but these items piqued my interest. Looking around other forums I have read mixed feelings so I thought I would ask the community here.

Finally, has anyone tried the ICE Liquid Clay Bar? I want to try it badly, just to see the results, so if anyone has used that product I would appreciate some comments.

EDIT: For some reason T E F L O N is corrected. Just wanted to clear that up.

Here is a little test to look over: NXT Tech Wax vs. Turtle Wax ICE

Tef*** is blocked out on MOL, I would guess has to do something with trademarks or something.

It would be interesting to see how the 'liquid clay' works, to me just sounds like a paint cleaner. IMO not sure how well it would remove the above surface contaminants. but... I have never used it.

:P I have heard 2 reports that it works, and one that it is just a paint cleaner. I will wait for someone else to do another review, but I am pretty sure it is just a strong paint cleaner. TW claims it will remove swirls ...as it there weren't enough people confused about what a clay bar does.

A friend of mine on another car forum swears by the wax with the non-stick cookware coating in it - says nothing sticks to his paint. He lives on the other side of this rather sizeable country of ours so I haven't been able to check in person.

The liquid clay bar came up on that same forum and I'd never heard of it before. Reading the description it claims to do pretty much everything, both above and below surface cleaning. Sounds a bit optimistic to me.

There's a lot of crazy claims on the market these days and I'm a firm believer in the "find something you like and use it often" philosophy. I've found a great product lineup and I do use it often - maybe you guys have heard of it; it's called Meguiar's . That doesn't mean I'm not open to other things (just picked up a bottle of Prima Hydro the other day) but it takes more than some ad copy to convince me.

I went and bought some of the Liquid Claybar, curiosity got me. 10 bucks, so I figure what the hell. I hope to clean the ride in a few days so we'll see how she goes.

I have used both Clay Magic and Meguiars clay systems so I will see the difference and report back.

I have never tried either product, but I remember about five years ago, on the Du Pont web site there was a statement to the effect that ****** would not work in an auto wax to provide non stick effects. Fast forward five years, and they are selling just such a product... one of those things that makes you go HHMMM.

During a promotion I picked up a bottle of ICE the same time as my first bottle of NXT liquid wax. I found the clear liquid on my light colored jeep frustrating to work with vs the NXT. I didn't use it long enough to compare the two but I kept the bottle for my black plastic fender-flares and bumper caps since it doesn't haze on black plastics.

With the increased use of plastic on new cars, does meguiar's have any non-haze products for protecting plastics outdoors? I don't imagine Tech Protectant would be formulated to combat the elements.

I have found a great product to use on exterior plastics (not the painted plastic) is All Season Dressing, this seems to hold up quite well provides UV protection and looks great! There are many other Dressings in Meguiars line but thats my to choice.

I bought the Trim Detailer on a whim and am sold on the product. Removed a bit of haze for me from some old wax.

DuPont claims that the PTFE in thier wax is there to make it easy to remove...it has nothing to do with any supposed 'non-stick' abilities to the painted finish after the waxing.

Re: Let us talk about ICE and ******....

Okay, I finally went and cleaned my car using the TW ICE Liquid Claybar. A good product, really. I must admit however that my car is only 4 months old, has been clayed already and is wash/waxed weekly so the product wasn't put to the test.

Overall though my paint was smooth and glossy wen rinsed off and there was no water beading from prior wax applications. In essence it felt and looked like my vehicle did after I used a claybar before.

So I give it a passing grade and a recommendation to anyone who is intimidated by using a traditional claybar. For most people who have used a clay system in the past should stick with the Megs Clay System as it is quite simply more of a value with all of the stuff that you get in the box.
