  • Cleaning Foam Buffer Pads with paint on them

Ever since curing my 99 miata of severe oxidation
    (http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...ad.php?t=18779)
there has been lots of red paint that has come off on the pads since it does not have a clearcoat.
What is the best method to remove this? Is it even possible or do I have to use these pads on only red cars from now on?
Im detailing a white RX8 soon, and I dont want to spread red all over it!

I washed the pads immediately after use in the washing machine (i know its not recommended) with some clothes detergent and a little dish soap and simple green too. Pads came out in fine shape, but still stained very red.

    thanks

i spray my pads with APC 10:1. then let them sit in warm-hot water for a while.

then in clean warm-hot water for a while. then let them dry.

you might always have red colour on your pad but it SHOULD NOT transfer to another car. the pad will just be stained. nothing major.
and no yo don't have to use these with red only. it shouldn't transfer onto the new car you're detailing.

    they pad is just stained.

Meguiar's doesn't reccomend washing pads, but if you choose to, make sure you are careful about how hot the the water gets. Also don't expect Meguiar's to replace any pads if they fall apart after washing.

yes i forgot to put that disclaimer in my post.

the problem is due to the velcro backing coming off.

Neither I or my friends have had any negative side effects of washing in the washing machine, so while technically it isnt manufacturer recommended, I think its a good way to clean the pads. (youd be surprised how many products you already use against manufacturer recommendation! )

thanks for the info trufflepig, the paint transfer was my biggest worry, so now I dont feel hesitant about using them on other cars.
