  • clay bar order

I've been told you can only step down in this order

    paint > glass > trim > chrome/exhaust

and never up the steps. But if clay is just picking up the bonded contaminants, why does it matter?

do you guys have designated small bars of clay just for glass or do you do it however rarely your clay runs out?

I cant use a bar to go over my paint then over the glass and back?

well if your clay bar comes back totally clean after the paint sure you can.

    me personally.

I have one bar for paint.

an older one for my rims and headlights.

have never clayed my window. don't feel the need to YET.

if i drop a clay bar its garbage.

there is no real set order if you have one more than one clay and most people i would assume do. b/c when my clay bar gets old i just designate it to the rims etc...

Thats exactly how I use my clay. There is no set way to use a bar of clay over its lifetime but the steps TP listed above seem to work well for me as well. I have not found a need for use on glass either(yet)

Paint and glass isnt too big a deal, where it is sap, bug splatter, tar, soft stuff. It is more wheels and exhausts that are a problem. Wheels and exhausts are going to have brake dust and things like that, where you could be taking bits of metal back up to your paint on the clay bar.
