    Hey,

I am not Mike, but if I may...

The PC comes in two models:

    1. 7424 which has a 5" counter-weight

    2. 7336 which has a 6" counter-weight

Some people prefer the 7336 while others like the the 7424.
I have owned a 7424 since the day it went on to the market. Some people like the 7336 when used at higher speeds as they say it produces less vibration. Though my 7424 does not vibrate that bad either at the higher speeds

Either way, I would suggest using the Meguiar's backing plate W-64DA which is designed for the 6.5" pads.

      Hi Steveo,

There are two primary versions of the Porter Cable Dual Action Polish, the basic difference is one comes with a weight for a 5" backing plate/pad combo and one comes with a weight for a 6: backing plate/pad combo

I have read that people like the larger weight because it dramatically reduces vibration at higher speeds. I don't know however, because I have never used the one with the weight for the 6" backing plate/foam pad combination.

The way to test this would be to have both set-ups side by side with the same backing plate and foam pad combinations and then turn them on and see for yourself if there is a difference and if there is, how much of a difference there is.

I for one am interested in this.

As for the difference between the polisher Lowe's sells and the one Meguiar's' sells, Meguiar's comes with a 5" Velcro backing plate and one W-8006 foam polishing pad plus a lifetime, no questions asked replacement warranty if it ever malfunctions. I think the one Lowe's sells only comes with a 1-year limited warranty.

If you purchase the one at Lowe's for $109.95, and then add on the Meguiar's foam pad kit with a Meguiar's Velcro Backing backing plate for $32.95 your total price will be $142.90 plus any taxes or shipping charges.

I see your point about the warratny and the pads, but for an extra hundred dollars, i'll just take really good care of it, and withstand the little extra vibration. That way i can buy more pads, and the super-sized bottle of DACP because that's all they have at my detail place.

        Thanks for the explination.

          Mike,

          It must be deja vu!

Alright, I have the PC now, and am looking for a pad combo. After i get the velcro backing plate, should i get the soft buff foam pad to use with the DACP and the #7? Should i use something different for each? Also, what's the best way to clean the foam pads???

another bomb-shell of questions, but I'm learning a ton! thanks.

PS - Hopefully deja vu doesn't happen, because i plan to check the #7 with the PC before i get the DACP to see if that does the trick. unless that was a personal thing with mike.

It only takes one time for me to learn my lesson.

              Hey,

Yes, that was a personal thing with Mike. I had just answered the question and then Mike answered with the same information.

Also remember #7 does not have any cleaning ability. It is a pure polish only. So if you have marring, #9 or #83 will be needed.

Just wanna say thanks for all the help you guys are. It's nice to have a place to go to with all of these questions and get answers from people who know what they're talking about, and aren't just trying to sell you something. Plus, for some reason, i don't feel like a complete doofus asking some of these questions. I still have a ton to learn, but so far i love everything meguiars.

                  The old saying,

"There's no such thing as a stupid question"

really applies to car care. We all start out at the same level and because someone else answered our questions, or we learn through experience, we are able to now answer your questions.

                  Good luck with your project.
